When I had my daughter I was surprised at how often I was checked that first day after delivery. They came in every few hours to check my vitals, my baby's vitals, and bleeding. I was so thankful to go home because I was so sleep deprived in the hospital. It seemed that they would always come in right after my baby and I had fallen asleep to wake us up again!
I was telling one of my friends this and she told me that during her postpartum stay that each time she and her baby woke up for a feeding that she called the nurses to come in to do the vitals. I wish I had thought of that last time. I thought I'd pass on the advice since those middle of the night interruptions can leave you a bit tired and irritated.

My life has a superb cast but I can't figure out the plot.
Good idea. I probably wouldn't have thought of that either. I mean I won't really know what's going on or what to expect so I'd probably just go with the flow. That way is definitely better. Thanks for passing it on.
I am saving all these tips and I am going to print them and put them in my hospital bag. I am sure with everything going on I will forget most of them 12 weeks from now. This one's a keeper.
I made a deal with my nurses, I would call for my meds therefore they wouldn't wake me up and I never had to wait. Also I sent my son back each night after his bottle and they would do 2am feeding and bring him back to be at 6am for his next feeding and when my ped dr would show up (he showed up everyday at 5:55am to check son!!) Granted my son came out on a 4 hour feeding schedule and it went longer as he got older.
I also sent my baby to the nursery so I could at least sleep some. I couldn't sleep with all the little grunts and noises she made and I had some weird fear she'd stop breathing or choke. No one told me how much newborns choke on the amniotic fluid in the first 48 hrs!!!
They would bring her in when it was time for her to eat again, so it wasn't totally uninterrupted, but it was nice to sleep and have my mind at ease when she was in the nursery.
