  • I'm glad the mom and baby are healthy but I think that was an incredibly selfish thing to do--going forward with a pregnancy that could've orphaned her son. She may have had religious beliefs that influenced her decision, and if so I respect that. But going forward just because you wanted one more seems to completely ignore the fact that she has one healthy son who needs her. Flame away, but that's MO.

I'm torn. I kinda agree with you but I just don't know if I could terminate an otherwise healthy baby at 18 weeks.

In the end I'm so glad everything worked out with a happy and healthy baby and mom.

Wait, wait, wait...she made it almost halfway through the 2nd tri before they realized she had an ectopic?!?!  How in the hell did THAT happen?  And how did I miss that in the article (whoops)?  That makes it a bit more difficult of a decision.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that part!  If I had been trying to get pregnant for as long as she said she was, I sure as hell would have been knocking on the doctor's door for a thorough ultrasound ASAP.  Though I wonder if she had major infertility issues that made her not ovulate or get her period so maybe she just didn't think it could happen until she started to show?

  • i worry now that pg women with ectopic pregnancies are going to hold out hope--at the risk of their lives and their childrens. i'm sure this will be stressful for obs, too. glad she and her son are doing well!

  • So this clearly wasn't in her tube, or am I missing something from the article? When I was diagnosed with my ectopic, I did a ton of Googling about it obviously and found a few women that had carried a non-uterine pregnancy, but it wasn't in their tube. I would hope that women are "smart" enough not to think they can carry a pregnancy in their tube safely. I think that most people equate ectopic pregnancies with tubal pregnancies so I can see how people will be confused if they don't get in to the details of this story.

It does seem crazy that this wasn't picked up until 18 weeks, but that had to have been her first u/s.
