Tongue tied- question

How far should my kid be able to stick our her tongue?  She was tongue tied at birth and the doctor snipped her tongue at her last appointment.  He told me then we may need to snip more at our next appointment if it wasn't enough.  But how much is enough?  I know I've seen babies with their tongues practically touching their chins.  DD's doesn't even come out over her lips.  But I also know that, as adults, we're all different.  Does anyone know what an 'acceptable' length is for her tongue to come out of her mouth?  I don't want to snip more if we don't have to (the appt is coming up which is why I'm thinking about it).

Thanks!

This is something to discuss with your pedi and and ENT specialist. We had Aaron's frenulum snipped, and he can now stick is tongue out. When researching this topic we learned that the frenulum is going to stretch a bit as he ages, so additional cutting right now may not be necessary.

I don't have an answer to your question but we had DD's clipped at 2 weeks. I have seen her stick her tongue over her lips but does not stick it way out like I see in some pics. It took her like a month to stick it out at all. I think it may stretch more but I could be wrong. How long has it been since it was clipped?

She had it clipped at her 2 month appt. so it's been almost a month.  It is coming out further than it was, but she still doesn't stick her tongue OUT.  I'm just nervous- people here are quick to do things like additional clipping and, being a first time mom, I have no idea what's right or wrong.

I have to say I was really worried about it but now I've calmed down. She has a good range of motion as far as I can tell. Definitely talk to the Dr. though you would want to do it soon though because it's harder to take care of as they get older. I'm sure that your LO is perfect the way she is though...try not to worry too much mama!

DD can only just barely stick her tongue out. I noticed last night though, that it is coming out a little further now. I was worried about her being tongue tied but my pedi said that they only worry about it/snip if the baby can not touch their lips.

This is good to know.  Thank you!  She definitely couldn't touch her lips before the snip, but she can now so hopefully we won't have to do more.
