SF with 2yr old question

I really want to take Riley into the city via BART one day next week. But where do I go?

I want something that will kind of contain him. That is safe! (duh) and that is close to BART and outside or inside but doesn't cost a lot to do. Anyone have a suggestion?

I took Katie on BART to go to a show we went to and she did not want to stay at the show, she just wanted to ride bart. She loves to ride BART. Why the city? I understand BART is right near Habitot and its also walking to Fairyland. What about that?

We have done both habitot and Fairyland recently. To be honest I just NEED to be in the city for a day. I miss it. Since right now a mom's day away on the weekend isn't a possibility I figured I would just share my love of the city with him.

I haven't been, but how about Zeum: https://www.zeum.org/about/index.html

I am not familiar with BART as it gets out that way, but perhaps a ferry ride from Oakland to Ferry Building, then walk around the building, get gelato, check out the boats, then ferry back home?

Right by my work there is Yuerba Buena Gardens. They have a park, and water falls, and a cool thing for MLK. Also connects to the walkway overpass that goes to the merry go round and zuem. You could do a picnic in the park, or there are lots of places to eat that are pretty cheap nearby. You would take BART to the Montgomery Station and walk about two blocks.

I'm glad you asked this question -I've wanted to take J into SF but wasn't sure where to go.

If you do end up going to Zeum and are a Contra Costa Libraries card holder then you can get free passes here: https://ccclib.org/discovergo/

I think the Ferry Building is pretty entertaining.  There's lots of wildlife (birds, sea lions, etc) by the pier.  Lots of people and things to look at.  And cute shops/stores to grab a snack at.  (I'm a fan of Taylor's Refresher - now Gott's... for a shared milkshake and fries!!).
