4 Month Wakeful...

...who's there yet?  I'm pretty sure we are.  For the past 2 nights, DD has slept like absolute sh!t.  DH and I are walking zombies, because she has been waking up every 2-3 hours and is so restless when she does sleep.  Bye bye 8 hour stretches.

What are your experiences.  Mine?  It sucks, and I need it to be over very soon.  I feel like I have a newborn all over again.

  • HELLO!  I'm totally there.  Seemed to start on Sunday for us.  He was sleeping either 7-7 or 7-4 before then.  Now he's getting up to eat every 3-4 hours at night.  It's exhausting.  He's also totally off schedule during the day.  Oh yeah, and he's starting to teeth.  I'm so ready to be past this growth spurt!  I really hope it doesn't last past this week but I have no idea how long it's supposed to last on average.

I've seen so many different things about how long it lasts.  I'm hoping for a couple weeks tops!

  • Either my LO is ahead of the game or its a 3 month growth spurt, but this is totally her. Used to sleep from 8-4 or 5 before getting up to eat, now she's up every 3-4 hrs and very restless. I want my long stretches of sleep back!! I asked our secretary to keep a pot of coffee warm all day for me.

  • Went to bed at 9:30. Up at 1 to eat. Up at 3 to eat. Up at 5 to eat. Ugh! Up for real at 6:30. That one's okay. I get up at 5:30 anyhow. It's been a couple of week for us already.

  • I'm pretty sure we're going through this right now. To be fair, we are also transitioning out of the swaddle after too many Houdini acts- even with a sleep sack w/ velcro. Either way, DS is waking up every 2-3 hours lately.. sometimes he puts himself back to sleep, and other times he fusses until I go in to check on him. Last night, I heard him "talking" on the monitor, and when I went into his room, he was grinning from ear to ear and wide awake. Silly boy!

ETA: That was at 3:30 am, btw. Momma's tired at work today!

  • All these descriptions sound like regular nights to me.  I'm becoming more and more convinced that Audrey is never going to sleep longer than 3 hours at a time.  During her 3 month growth spurt, she was up every hour.  I can't even fathom what the 4 month is going to be like.  My mom told me I didn't STTN until I was 15 months, and DH didn't until he was 9 months.  We're screwed.

This is my biggest debate right now.  Since we're not sleeping well now, I'm debating if we should lose the swaddle and RnP now and get it all over with at once.

We've had him in his own room for a little over a week now, and that part seems to be going well. I'm sleeping more soundly when I AM able to sleep, because with the monitor I only hear his fussing/crying and not all his little grunts and toots.. haha.

As far as transitioning from the swaddle, we're still using a sleep sack, but we're wrapping it around his waist instead of his arms. So far so good, I guess. He is waking more often, but he isn't wanting to eat or anything- just needs to be comforted and he's usually back asleep after a few minutes.

  • She STTN a couple of nights last week. Now this week she has been up at least once a night sometimes twice a night. And for the past 3 days she has only slept 1 hour combined naps during the day. I don't know if it's the 4 MW...

We might be there.  He's 3 months 2 weeks and for the last few weeks had been a pretty solid 3 AM wake-up.  Either Saturday or Sunday he got up at 3 AM like normal, then again at 4:45 AM.  He could not be consoled and switched to total epic meltdown mode.  He got another meal and then slept until 9 AM.  Every day after that he has gotten up earlier.  First it was 2:30, then 1:40, then 1 AM today.  Since he got up at 1 AM he got up again at 5:30 AM and I had to feed him (usually we feed him around 6:20 if we have to do it before work, or try-try-try to make it to the nanny's for her to feed him at 7 AM).  I'm scared for tonight....  And of course, DH is out of town.  All. week. long.  But, he's having a much worse time doing what he's doing.  So he didn't get off easy.

Apparently, Dh sttn at 2 weeks and me not until I was 2, yes 2!

  • I don't know if we're there yet, but DD's sleeping has changed for the past week.  She now wakes at 3 am on the dot to eat, and then is wide awake grinning ear to ear for awhile.  I don't interact with her verbally but I can't help smiling back b/c it's so cute.  Anyways, I end up staying up from 45 min to an hour and then DH usually has to go in her room twice to give her the paci and play the Seahorse.  I'm TIRED this week.

  • DD has been doing this for almost 2 weeks now. She was sleeping from 9:30 until 3 am eating then back to bed until 6/7. Now she is up at 12, 3, 5, and then 6/7 and she is only taking 30 minute naps now. Its killing me, I'm so exhausted and ready for some long stretchs again. I sure hope it doesn't last much longer.

  • Our LO did this for 2 nights in a row a week ago and then it just stopped. Not sure if that was his 'wakeful' period or if it is still to come...im dreading it!

This is exactly what DD is doing, and it's killing me.  She's not hungry, so she doesn't even eat at those times during the night.  She just wants to be put back to sleep.  It's so exhausting.

  • DD has not been sleeping for about a week now. She'll sleep about 3 hours, then up every 1.5-2 hours the rest of the night! She was sleeping 8 hours! It wasn't even this bad for us in the beginning. Plus, she doesn't just start to stir and then wake up... She just starts crying. At least she is calmed easily by being picked up, but she doesn't always want to sleep again. She's also eating better and more often at night than during the day.

I htink my LO's change in night sleep was due to a growth spurt after all because after 3-4 days of crazy early wake-up (and major weight gain), he slept through the night for the first time (10:30 PM to 6 AM).  I think he could  have slept longer but I had to wake him up and feed him else risk a very angry baby when I woke him up to leave the house.  The next day, he was back to his usual 3 AM wake-up.  The 4 month wakeful could still be headed for us.  Eek.
