Losing my bump PP??

I actually liked my bump when I was pregnant, but now 9 days after my little guy was born, I'm ready to shed this belly!! Are other people still experiencing this? I had an emergency c-section after a rough labor, so I don't know if that has any impact on the process (and I can't work out for awhile). I also had a total "basketball belly" that went straight out in front, so there was a lot of that to lose. I am breastfeeding (constantly--I have a very hungry baby!), so I'm sure that has helped with the progress I've made so far. The nurses said it could take 6 weeks to go away, but I hate the idea of looking like I'm still pregnant for that long! I'm just wondering if this seems on par with what other people might be experiencing. Thanks!!

I am sporting a belly that looks like I might be 20 weeks along at 4 weeks pp.  this is my second baby though and I feel that my tummy may take more time to go down.

I was wondering the same thing too about how long it will take to lose the belly.  I just had my baby 4 days ago and look 6 months pregnant.  I'm really wondering houw much is really baby weight fat and how much is belly fat that I put on during the pregnancy Embarrassed

  • You are going to retain fluid for awoke, so keep that in mind also. I am about 10 days PP and STILL have some mad swelling in my extremities, so I am sure some of my belly is fluid retention. It is frustrating, but be patient. It will happen.

I know its frustrating but your uterus took 9 months to get that large, it is not just going to shrink back down overnight. It can even take 3 months to go back down to non pregnancy size. The belly you have now is likely not "fat" just your uterus, after having been stretched to max capacity, slowly shrinking back down.

  • Same problem here. I wear a corset-type device that helps me fit into jeans and makes me able to hide my pp bump if I wear the right clothes.

The time it takes to look normal can depend on the extent/severity of ab separation. If you have separation - it can take what seems like forever. I did pilates religiously for a year to get my body back. Mine was pretty severe tho.

You might look up diastasis recti for some ideas/advice.

  • Thanks, ladies, for the info & commiseration! I will definitely have to force myself to be patient, and as soon as I'm cleared for exercise I'll be full speed ahead. Depending on how much I find I'm going out, I might be investing in one of those support bands. I really want to avoid being asked how far along I am!! Embarrassed
