I'd check with your pedi at your 4 month appt coming up. More than likely, they will say yes. However, I read on www.wholesomebabyfood.com that putting rice cereal in the bottle kinda works against your goal to get them to eat off a spoon for later solids.
We just got all all clear to give Mj cereal. I have to go and get some but she said to start with a small amount with his last feeding of the day and slowly we can move up from there.
We went to the pedi and he gave us the okay to add some rice or oatmeal to his bottle or feed him as long as he will take it. I've given him it in his bottle at night and he does well with it. Eating it with a spoon is still something we are working on. I would call and check with pedi first and then as long as your LO takes it ok, it should be fine.

I talked to our pedi about Isaac and she said to give it a try at 4 months to help his reflux. We have already tested out cereal but then I found out it had soy in it so I stopped that since I don't want to mess with his milk/soy intolerance. We are going to just start right off with veggies. I have already pureed sweet potatoes and squash.
My ped also says 4 mo. but we tried earlier for his reflux and it was a no go. We're going to try again soon.
Hopefully your next try will be better - we found putting it on the roof of her mouth helped her learn better.
At 12 weeks we tried in the bottle - not good
At 13 weeks I tried to spoon feed and put in bottle - little better but not real good
At 14 weeks she is eating almost like a pro!!!! Relux is almost gone (w/help of meds). She is also getting some carrots too and eats it better then cereal. If you do this make sure it is the kind for "sitting with assistance". Its on the label. She is getting Cereal with her first morning feeding after 2 oz bottle and then her medication. She gets carrots (or cereal) at night after 2 oz bottle, then meds, then food, then finishes with 2 more oz before falling asleep 30 - 40 min later (after some of it digests).
