Vacations and cleaning

My DH thinks I'm strange because I insist on deep cleaning before we go on vacation. I want everything nice and clean for our return.  I figure that coming back to a messy house will only make coming back from vacation harder :)

How about you ladies?  Am I a weirdo?

    NOPE!  I am the same way- so was my mom, which, when I was a kid I thought she was nuts.  But now, I'm totally the same.  In fact, we are leaving tomorrow and I literally want to walk out the door sweeping up behind me :).  You are not alone.

    Same exact way-

    My house has to be SPOTLESS and I have to change all of the sheets before I leave.

    just makes coming home that much more enjoyable.

    I am the same way and DH thinks I am nuts too. Coming home to a clean house just makes it easier to come home.

    I may or may not mop my way out of the door when we leave for vacations and leave the swiffer in the garage :P

    You are not a weirdo, I do the same thing! We are going away for the long weekend and I have been washing linens and deep cleaning so when we leave tomorrow night, everything will be fresh and spotless. I hate coming home to a messy/dirty house.

    no. definitely not alone! i would hate to come back from a vacation to a dirty/messy house. plus, my vacation is over our 2 week shutdown at work - so i'd rather get it all done before we leave then i can REALLY have a 2 weeks vacation instead of worrying about cleaning!!

    No!  I am the same way.  I always clean the house before we leave on vacation.  There is nothing worse than coming home from a relaxing vacation to a dirty house.

    I do it too. I hate coming home to a dirty house.  I also grocery shop before we go too so I don't have to go right away when we get home.  I get food that will last and be fresh when we get home.  Sometimes I even cook and freeze dinner for the first night or two when we get home.   So according to me, you are not a weirdo......

    I'm the same way...currently in the middle of an OCD pre-vaca deep clean and taking a break.  My mom was the same way and we knew as kids to stay away from her the day before leaving for vacation...DH has quickly learned this!  You are certainly not crazy!

    This is the most logical thing in the world to me. Nothing more stressful than walking into a house that is filthy, esp since you are facing unpacking/vacation laundry/kids off schedule/etc.

    I always deep clean before we go. If it's a short enough trip that things won't spoil, I also stock the fridge/pantry with food for when we come home. I catch up totally on laundry, change the sheets, etc. We have 2 cats so there is always some mess from them when we get home, even if the place is spotless when we leave.

    My H also thinks it's overkill, but that's because all he does after a vacation is come home, take a shower, get in bed, and go to work the next day. Angry 

    I used to housesit in college for a family that took 2 week vacations every summer. I stayed at the house for them and took care of their 3 pets. They always had their housekeeper come the day they came home to clean up after pets (and me I guess!). Looking back that was such a great idea.

    Coming home to a dirty/messy house is awful! I always clean before leaving. It's bad enough having to come home and unpack (and the mess that makes) and do loads and loads of laundry. I'd hate it if we had "old" stuff to pick and clean up too.
