My induction turned to a c-section... :(

I was induced with pitocin at 7:00 a.m being only dilated a fingertip and about 50% effaced. around noon the doctor came into check. Only dilated to about a 1.5 and 60% effaced. The contractions to this point were strong, coming about every two minutes in a "pretty" pattern according to the nurse but, were not unbearable. Then the doctor decided to break my water. I labored hard until around 5:00 with the pitocin at around 104 and decided that I needed something for pain. They gave me the Demerol, which helped me rest during contractions but I cannot say that it took the edge off of the pain of the contractions. With the Demerol, they checked me again, dilated to a 3, so we decided to see if it would relax me enough to dilate some more. Around 7 I decided that I couldn't take the pain anymore and gave in to the epidural. WONDERFUL! Although it was not at all what i wanted, I could not bear the pain anymore and 12 hours into labor I was still only dilated to a 4.

Around 10 the doctor came into check me again. No progress at all. still dilated to a 4 and around 80% effaced and 15 hours into labor, the doctor decided that it was time to talk about a c-section. She felt that the baby was stuck in the pelvis and may have been bigger than we thought or my pelvis just wasnt spreading. We agreed to the c-section and when she opened me up, sure enough, abbey's head was stuck in the pelvis and cocked to the side and she had a huge cone head. The doctor said that there was no way that she would have delivered naturally.

Abbey was born with, what we think, are cataracts in both eyes. One is much worse than the other. We are waiting to hear from the specialist in Houston and will be scheduling surgery in the next couple of weeks for her. Other than that, she is a beautiful little girl!

  • I'm sorry you didn't get the birth you wanted. She is very cute. I hope they figure out what is going on with her eyes. Feel better!

Congrats on your baby girl! I hope you get good news with her eyes. I know it is hard to hear your child is not physically perfect but know that you will get through this and it will be okay.
