Ooops

I spent the last week crocheting a sweater for Piper with some organic cotton yarn that I picked up on clearance.  I followed the pattern exactly, appropriate weight yarn, checked my gauge, aaaaaaaand it fits Quinn!  Seriously, I made a 3-6 month size hoping to have a sweater for the summer, and it fits my 21 month old who's wearing a 2T.  At least I know that I'll have a gorgeous sweater that will fit her...eventually.

Re: Ooops

  • Better too big than too small I guess!  I have that happen to me from time to time but it's usually because I don't bother to swatch and check my gauge.  I'm a rebel like that I guess.

I don't usually either, but I also never made anything more complicated than a blanket or hat before!

  • True, very true.  I did get a surprise $60 today...thanks for the idea.  :)

  • Aww!! Darn it! I know nothing about knitting but that would be pretty frustrating! Did it look big as you were doing it? or does the pattern seem big or off? (if that is even possible? lol)

It definitely looked big as I was going.  Once I got through the fronts and back, I just made the sleeves a little longer because I knew it was going to be huge!   Not sure what happened, though.  I think the pattern is sized badly.  It was from the Lion Brand website, though, so I thought it would be pretty reliable.

  • Did you check the gauge again to make sure it is still matching up?  It is possible that as you started going, instead of working on a swatch, you loosened up.

Other than that, I wouldn't discount them having a bad pattern...you never know!

I did one from there the other day, and it was HORRIBLE. I had to rip out days worth of work and ended up with a ton of little balls. :(
