So I had to google this after seeing it mentioned several times in the GTKY post below. And I was like, wow! I have this! I have seasonal allergies and my mouth gets all tingly after eating honeydew melon. Funny that I never knew the two were connected. Watermelon also upsets my stomach, which goes along with my whole ragweed issue. I doubt I have a serious case though, considering I'm fine if I just don't eat it.
On a side note, my mouth seriously burns/tingles after eating Brie. Then I read that this could be a mold allergy, from the penicillin sprayed on the rind? I'm very intrigued by this, I'm wondering if I should bring this info to my doctor.
Ok, and one last question...I've always gotten extremely nauseous after eating fresh fruit that hasn't been completely washed, particularly apples. Would this indicate an intolerance towards pesticides in general?

I am a sufferer of OAS. For years I thought it was in my head, especially because mine is adult onset (I had reactions as a kid, but they were never severe and my parents didn't believe me when I told them about it. Yeah - that is another story.)
I finally discussed it with my doctor. Some of my food reactions are honest food allergies, but others are due to the OAS. It is just easiest to avoid all of them, so I rarely explain the difference to people (I don't think my DH could distinguish my food allergies from my list of OAS reactive foods).
Good luck! I will let you know that it is something that is often misdiagnosed or not diagnosed at all. Be sure to be proactive about it and about finding someone that is knowledgeable on the subject.
Out of curiousity, should I seek a diagnosis for this? What is the benefit? I usually just don't eat that food. Is there treatment for this?
