Tampons before 6 week check up (maybe TMI)

I have my 6 week check up next week, but i am still bleedig! Or should i say its just a mucousy reddish discharge but i have to change a panty liner twice a day. Its probably because im nursing but i have a few places to go this weekend and really need to wear thongs instead of panties so would you say it would be okay to use tampons by now? Also do i go to see the GYN next week even if im still bleeding or do i call them and reschedule?

  • Yes, see them even if you are bleeding. I would not wear a tampon before being told it was safe. Even if it were safe, I personally would not wear one for flow light enough that you're only going through 2 liners a day. I'd be worried about TSS. Not that it's my business, but why do you "really need to wear thongs" so badly? Just curious!

  • I bought some panty liners, not sure of the brand since it was a while ago, but the had fold overable sides so you could use them with a thong. I wouldn't use a tampon before 6 weeks just in case. You should be able to find those liners at the store. They were in a long cardboard box (not folded into 3 like most are) instead of a plastic soft pack.

  • Carefree was the brand. Just remembered.

  • Carefree makes thong panty liners. I used them while I still fit in my thongs during pg for all the yucky discharge and they worked fine. Try those. I wouldn't use a tampon because if you are not fully healed yet they could possibly cause harm/pain or do damage I would think. I still had a stitch or two hanging around at my 6w PP check up.

  • Even if you aren't bleeding that much you should still be changing your liner more than 2x a day for sanitary reasons.

But yes, they sell thong panty liners although I also would really like to know where you are going that you NEED to wear a thong...

    All of this.

I would not use a tampon, or go against any of the other vaginal restrictions, before my pp appointment. I'm not willing to risk irritation or infection for an outfit.

  • I had a c-section and when I started my period last week I called to see if I could wear tampons and they said nope not until after my 6 week checkup.

  • Thanks Everyone! I was debating but now i will stay away and get the Carefree liners. I?m going to a rehearsal dinner and wedding this weekend and wearing a dress that looks better with a thong. I was always a thong wearer and it makes me feel less self conscious especially hat my body is not fully back to what it used to be. I didn?t know it would be such a BIG deal to ask.

I agree with everyone else, don't risk it.  I understand where you are coming from. I wore only thongs until post partum, they just look better under tight pants or dresses.

I totally understand.  I've always been a thong girl.  I get the thong liners pp's have mentioned.
