William Christopher is here! Will was born yesterday (May 25th) at 3:37 pm, 7 lbs 8 oz, 19 inches long. Our induction started at 5 pm on the 24th, they started pit. right away, I was already 2 1/2 centimeters and 75% effaced. Hours and hours passed and I dilated to a 3...At that point my back labor was pretty intense and I asked for IV meds (I really didn't want an epi), and the night shift nurse told me NO! "It will make you feel drunk and it won't really help" she said, keep in mind my dr. already said I could have them. She brought me a birthing ball instead. They kept checking me and there was never any change. Finally a new nurse came on and she gave me some lidocane through my IV, it helped a little, but I was still stuck at a 3. After 16 hours with no change and broken water my back labor was so bad I couldn't take it anymore. My nurse, ob and hubby were starting to worry that I was so worn out I wouldn't be able to push. So they finally convinced me to get the epi and OH MY LITTLE PONY was it wonderful! After it kicked in I was able to sleep for about 2 hours, when I woke up I told DH that I thought I could feel a contraction, I was so worried that the epi wasn't going to work either! He got my nurse, she came in and checked me and here eyes got really big, "Um, you're complete, and I can feel his hair!" I went from a 3 to a 10 in 2 hours! The ob told me later that I was in so much pain that my body couldn't relax enough to dilate. Will was out after about 45 minutes of pushing and he is perfect! Apparently all of that wasn't enough fanfare for his birth because by the time he was 3 hours old we were evacuated from our room and taken to the postpartum ward to sit in the hall for several hours with all the other new mommies and babies due to a tornado in the area! Thankfully the storm passed with no damage and we were able to get settled! Here is a picture of our little man!
