Babies: 3 - 6 Months

I think this is the wrong board, but I'm desperate..2 month shots.

Aaron had his 2 month shots today, and he is miserable.  If he's not sleeping, he's screaming so hard that he's turning purple.  We didn't get any information as far as pain management when we left, so we called the on-call pedi and she said to give him Tylenol.  We just gave it to him, so I hope that helps.  He's screaming so hard though that he won't take a bottle.  I don't know what to do for him :-( If your LO had a bad reaction, how long was it until he went back to normal?  I don't like that he's so upset.

  • The Tylenol pretty much conked our little one out.  I think if your LO keeps screaming after taking that, you should definitely have some cause for concern.  Does he have a fever?

  • It took about 4-6 hours for him to be mostly better, then maybe 12 hours total to go back to normal. Hope your little guy feels better soon! ETA: Tylenol didn't help my guy sleep at all.

No fever.  We gave him Tylenol about a half hour ago and he was still screaming up until a few seconds ago when H took him in the shower.  I'm hoping he'll come out a little bit relaxed so he will sleep.

Thanks so much!  He got his shot at about 11:30 this morning, so I'm hoping he feels better soon.  I wish I would've had the Tylenol instructions when I left, because we just gave it to him about a half hour ago.  Poor baby.

  • L had a rough go for 5 days after his shots. He would cry and whimper and wanted to be nursed often. He even threw up a couple times. It was terrible. We kept up with the Tylenol, called the public health nurse a few times and took his temp often. If you are concerned, take him in to get looked at, but just wanted you to know that some babies have a pretty rough time. It is a hard thing to go through :(
  • A hot dark steamy bathroom (wow that sounds bad) is what works when DD is having her screaming fits.  Also remove pants if he is wearing them.  DD had a hard time with anything touching the area where she got the shots for the first 24 hours or so.
  • DS did the same thing. I didn't give him Tylenol right away because he fell right asleep and I thought I'd wait and see. He slept for 3 hours and woke up screaming, though he didn't have a fever. The Tylenol helped, he took another nap, and woke up much better, with no more screaming fits. He had a decreased appetite for a couple days, but after that first day it was all way better.

    Hang in there!

  • My baby didn't have a reaction other than sleepiness, but I've heard that warm washcloths on the legs or a warm bath may help too.
  • Ella freaked out after her 2 month shots as well. It took her 2 days to go back to her usual self. HTH
