similac sensitive

Ds is colic. He has a lot of what appears to be painful gas and is fussy. I'm considering changing his formula from similac advance to similac sensitive. I was wondering if any of you have made this switch? Did you see any significant change/improvement? Tia

My babies actually did worse on Similac Sensitive. There were tons of bubbles in the bottles when we mixed it. Have you tried Dr. Brown's Bottles? They've helped my girls a lot.

I did this with both babies and they did better with the sensitive.  The advance had a higher iron content which caused havoc in their stomach.

You can also try Gripe water or Mylicon Drops. Your babies might do alright on it since every baby is different. Maybe try a small can, I bought a big one from BJ's and had to use it up.

  • I have tried the gripe water and drops as well. They help some but I was looking for something to help more. The pedi gave him a script for levisinsp? To relax the stomach muscles and that seems to help. Heylee, it's good to see you. I remember you from the pregnancy boards. How are you doing? Your girls look adorable!

Aw, I hope you find a solution :( My niece had bad reflux and my girls just have gas issues.

I am good, your baby is sweet! The girls are good, getting big. They are over 10 pounds now lol Here's some recent pics.

ds uses sensitive for spit-up with no issues. he does better on ready-to-feed than powder. we also have some sensitive for gas that we have yet to use because the gas drops once a day are enough to fix the problem.

i made the exact same switch once i stopped breastfeeding. the hospital gave me a ton of similac advance samples and so that's what i started using. i don't know if it was because it was kind of a sudden switch from breastmilk to formula or just the formula itself, but she seemed to have a lot of gas and would only poop about once a week. once i switched to the similac sensitive, it was smooth sailing. it took a few days to see results but for the past 6 weeks, she's been way more regular and is not fussy at all after feedings. we also use the dr brown's bottles and the combo seems to be working. good luck!

  • We just switched from the Target version of Similac Advance to the Target version of Similac Sensitive on Sunday, and DS seems to be doing a lot better. He still has gas, but it's not nearly as bad as it was, and doesn't seem to be causing him as much pain anymore. Good luck!

This exactly.  We received a free small jar of concentrate from Similac and we used it when we were almost of out Advance powder.  We noticed a difference immediately.  It literally only made 4 bottles or so, and we saw a huge difference... less toots, more poops, less straining for both... plus the spitup is less (he never really had much, but sometimes I wonder if he had silent reflux - either way, I don't hear it so much anymore either).  I agree with pp's who suggest a small container in case it doesn't work.

  • DS did AWFUL on the similac advanced. We switched to the sensitive with gripe water and gas drops and he was much better. We then switched to target's generic "compare to similac sensitive" to save money and it was horrible. He became constipated with rock hard bloody poop and was screaming bloody murder. I felt so bad and it was for days. We switched back to the name brand and the next morning his poop was completely normal. It was a few days ago so we're giving him some time to level out before we figure out how it's going to work since we've been switching around a lot. I have a feeling I might be trying either soy or good start gentle next though if his gas doesn't lessen some more.

  • We love the Similac Sensitive.  The Similac Advance was terrible for us, and we did really love the Enfamil Newborn, but could only find it at a few stores, so we had to switch to Similac.

We do the similac sensitive, gripe water, drops and Doc Brown bottles. The combo has made a huge difference w/ the formula switch being the key.

Also, it can take about a week for the old formula to be out of their system, so don't assume it's not working if you don't notice a difference right away. It took DD about that long for us to see improvement.
