Babysitting rate?

Hello, y'all, we just moved to Austin about 3 months ago and have finally met some potential babysitting candidates. We have one 3 year old DD.  The babysitters are college students and would have to drive to our place in north Austin from UT.  Is $12/hr fair?  I know I could just ask their rates, but I want to have an idea first. Thanks!

    I think $12 is completely reasonable.  You might be able to do $10, but $12 is a good amount.

    I think $12 sounds about right.  I agree with the other poster who said you could do $10 but $12 is better.  Its a bit more incentive to become a regular sitter for you :)

    I've also heard 10-15 is reasonable and that is what we have paid our neighbor in the past.

    i usually pay about $12 for a full babysitter. 

    i finally broke down and found a 'mom's helper' to come over some days while i am also home to help me while the girls play b/c i just can' afford $12/hour all the time.  she is a 9th grader and i pay her $8/hour to play with the girls.  they love it and she seems to as well.

    We pay our sitter $15/he and guarantee her a minimum of 3 hours. She's 24 and has a degree in child development.
