My Family Update (happier post than last one!) PIP

So my family is all safe from the OK storms.  MIL/BIL were driving home when the storm was heading for them; they made it with two minutes to high tail it into the storm cellar.  FIL was already in there with two of the three family pets (sadly as they put it, Freckles is over the rainbow - they can't find her).  They think Freckles was hiding under the shed since she's afraid of storms and wouldn't come out.

Again they are all safe!  They are well insured, and have already been in contact and assisted by their insurance company.  They've know how much they will recieve for the house and then how much they will recieve for their belongings. They've recieved a check for immediate expenses, were given the option of hotel coverage for the next two years if needed (they aren't taking that since they have family close and may just buy I new house), and have salvaged a small storage unit (closet size) worth of keepsakes.

Yesterday when DH was talking to MIL, she said "I think I can justify getting the mustang I want now."  They really are thankful to be alive, and are in good spirits over the whole situation.

I don't have before pictures of the front of the house (at least not on this computer), never thought it wouldn't be there.  But here's some:

you can see where the pool was in the after pictures - that's the pool that DS#1 had his first swimming experience in.

The house is the second from the left on the top side of the road.

The storm shelter is somewhere on the right by the small trees

Their car that was in the garage, you can see it in one of the others in the field behind where the house was along with the truck

FIL said the truck tool box that goes across the back is crumpled up in a tiny cube and shoved under the steering wheel area where the pedals are located.  This is the truck they had just drove home in; it's in the field now too!

I will post more later when I get the time.  Everyone stay safe and kiss your LO's!

Wow, thank goodness they are okay. Poor Freckles :( it's so hard losing a pet and that must really add to the devastation. I really feel for everyone who is going through that right now. It's so sad.

I'm glad everyone is safe and sound and that they were able to recover some keepsakes, and your MIL should totally get the mustang!

  • Holy moley at the pictures. I love that the sense of humor is intact and that the insurance company has already taken care of them.

freckles is a slightly overweight beagle around 6 or 7 years old.  She liked to sit on the back of the couch and look out at the beautiful back yard, and chase the fence line with the neighbor dogs.  She would use Topper (big black girl dog - I don't know her breed) as a pillow when they would lie in the sun outside.  Freckles like hunting frogs and mice, and had a taste for turds, but other than that was an awesome pet.

  • glad to hear they are safe
