What is wrong with my baby?

He's been a great sleeper since he was born. For the last month he's slept in his crib for 12-13 hour stretches at night. He only wakes up to feed, usually at 2 and 5. He was going to bed between 7:30-8.

Yesterday and today he is doing none of the above. I have been trying for 3 hours now to put him to sleep. I finally just gave up and put him in his swing.I'll move him to his crib later. The last two nights he's woken up 3-4 times. So he's not going to bed well and is not staying asleep. In the middle of the night I've put his paci back in, shushed him, patted him, rocked him, fed him, diapered him, and changed his positions. He is not running a temperature.

So what's wrong here?  Help me, mommies!

Re: What is wrong with my baby?

  • If I knew that answer I would be a rich woman!!! Probably a growth spurt- becoming more aware of his surroundings. Something is different in his daily routine.

I remember having a good napper until about that point- and then it went downhill. I had to bring his swing right into his room and let him sleep there. After that I could get a 3 hour nap out of him! I say do what you have to do to let him sleep. Hopefully you can get some sleep!!!

  • No idea...just some random thoughts...  Has the weather changed in those few days?  Could he be too hot, too cold?  Any congestion?  Could also just be a growth spurt...those can definitely interfere.  Also, unfortunately, they just seem to improve and regress a lot for no reason.  Just how it goes, I'm afraid!
  • I feel like he might be "afraid" of his crib. It is 5:30 and I am awake...alone...DS and DH are still sleeping. This is on my mind, as well as some other things, so I just got up. Through the night, I learned that DS will not sleep in his crib; HOWEVER, he will sleep in his bouncer, swing, in our bed, in my arms, etc. So...why not the crib? He's done so well in it lately.
