We got back from the allergy appointment around 3:30. The doctor didn't even do a test (blood or skin prick). He took Daniel's full history from birth, and wrote down mine and DH's allergies. Doc said since we haven't discovered any new allergies, and that we're managing fine, he doesn't think a test would have helped.
For now though, we're to keep avoiding dairy, eggs unless in a baked good, wheat unless ultra processed and strawberries. We found out about the strawberry allergy last night. MIL fed him a whole strawberry, and he immediately broke out in a rash on his face.
We have Piriton syrup to give him if he has another reaction, 2.5 ml every 6 hours for a maximum of 24 hours at a time. We have a referral with a dietician to make sure he's getting enough calcium and fat in his diet.
We have to wait for the referral letter (as usual), and then have a follow up appointment with the allergy doctor in six months for a diary/wheat/egg challenge. The reason they had a blood test scheduled for D is because he had a bad eczema flare up a couple days ago. Thank jeebus it wasn't needed.
Re: Allergist appointment update
hmm.. i would still want to know.
the test isn't there to help with the allergies. it's for the parents to know how crazy we have to be.
since he can have dairy in baked goods than that means his levels are not that bad for dairy. so it's very possible he has outgrown it. i think it would suck if my son outgrew his allergies and we still avoided the food. I would want to know.
The dairy allergy is well documented with full on vomiting, rash and diarrhea. I know the egg and wheat is more of an intolerance.
I'm going to have private testing done to see what he reacts to. The hospital wasted my afternoon to tell me what I already knew.
