Can I get a massage yet?

Probably a silly question, but is it ok for me to have a massage at only 2 weeks post partum? My head is absolutely killing me (history of chronic tension headaches) and I'm dying to go back to my massage therapist (trying to avoid going back on my meds now that I've been off of them for 9 months). Delivery and recovery have been completely normal with no complications so I think I'm probably good to go, but wondered if anyone had been told not to have a massage so soon.

Re: Can I get a massage yet?

  • I did, and if anything it will help you. My neck hurt from the pushing and I was very tense and that caused a lot of tension in my neck and tightness... I have a WONDERFUL girl who comes to my house and she is very reasonable (about $65 or so for 90 minutes, and less for an hour). Having her come to my house makes things so much easier (i.e., not having to find a babysitter). She brings her own table, etc). If you want her contact information let me know and I will get you in touch with her. I now have one once a month at the house while the baby sleep. My best perk ever!! She is EXCELLENT with the neck in particular. Email me for her contact info

  • I think it's fine as long as you tell them you need a postpartum massage.  My OB told me I could get one while I was in the hospital after delivering.  (They had a spa at the hospital and the therapists would come to your room - I'm totally taking advantage of that next time around.)
