December 2011 Moms

How old was #1 when you got pg with #2 (moms expecting #2)

The reason I ask is because another daycare mom made a comment to me this morning about my body not being recovered yet from #1 and how my pregnancy is probably really risky because of that. FWIW, she said that it takes 18 months for full recovery and I was 17 months PP when #2 was conceived. No she is not a dr or health care professional by any means, just a nosy biitch who thinks she knows everything.

Re: How old was #1 when you got pg with #2 (moms expecting #2)

  • When I got pg the second time, my daughter was 13 months.  I miscarried, and when we got a keeper, she was almost 2.

This time, my second was 16 months.

I wouldn't worry about any time frame.

  • DD1 was 13 months when I got pregnant again, m/c twice and she was 18 months when I got pregnant with DD2.  DD2 was 9 months when I got pregnant with DD3 and DD3 was 21 months when I got pregnant with #4 (this one).

It takes 18 months to 2 years for a body to fully recover but that means NOTHING about how healthy of a pregnancy you will have, don't worry about it.  She was just being super nosey and dumb :)

DD3 was the baby I carried closest to term and like I said, I was 9 months PP when I got pregnant.

  • DD was 13 months when I got pregnant this time around. She will be 22 months when LO is born. I wouldn't worry about what she's telling you - she just thinks she knows everything.

My DD was 9 months.  My doctor told me that she likes to see at least 18 months between deliveries.  My DD will be 18 months when #2 is born.  We followed doctors orders!  :)

  • I am not pregnant with number two, but I can tell you that my brother and I are 11 months apart. That's right. My mom had two under the age of 1! Both my brother and I were very healthy babies. So, hopefully that gives you some reassurance!

I think she's mistaken. My doctor told me that ideally they like to have 18 months between deliveries, not pregnancies. I'm also pretty sure that getting pregnant before than doesn't make you high risk. Women do it all the time. My daughter was about 16 months when I got pregnant with this baby. They will be almost exactly 2 years apart.

  • My DS was 11 months when I conceived.  My doctor doesn't seem worried at all.

  • DS was 12 months when we conceived. I've always heard that it takes a year for your body to fully get back to normal but I don't think that relates at all to the health of the pregnancy/new baby. I think it is more having to do with your organs shifting back into place, your body fully recovering back to its "normal/pre-pg" state.

I will say that I feel like I am showing way more and way faster with this baby and I think its not only because its my 2nd pregnancy but because the pregnancies were somewhat close together which I think plays more of a factor.

  • Phew!!  I'm so glad that this nosy biotch has made it safe for me.  I was worried that I was having #2 too soon......

    DS was 18 months.

DD was about three and a half when I got pg with #2, but that had more to do with the spacing we wanted between kids and our indecisiveness about having another one than whether my body had recovered from my first pregnancy.  Lots of people have kids closer together than you will.  I think you will be just fine!

  • Dd was 11 months. My doctor gave me the red light to go ahead and ttc at 6 months.

  • It was 5 days before her first birthday. I really doubt a pregnancy before 18 months is "really risky." I'd probably just say, "Funny, my doctor didn't mention that."

  • DD was two months shy of 1 year old.  My LMP was the day she turned 10 months.

There are some risks to having a kid less than 2 years apart, but that doesn't necessarily mean that your pregnancy will be high risk.  My doctor said that he'd be watching for things like placenta previa, but that there's no reason to think that I'd have a lot of complications with this one, even though I got PG less than 1 year after giving birth to my DD.  Like PPs mentioned, it's more of an issue when the deliveries are less than 18 months apart.

  • 18 months.  I didn't wait for that specific reason though, I just wasn't ready until then.
  • DD was just shy of 23 months when we found out we were expecting.

My doctor told me it was best to wait a year until getting pregnant again, but I also had a c-section.  I think that lady has no idea what she's talking about!

DS was 10 months, they'll be 19 months apart. That woman is stupid.

  • DD#1 was almost 3yr old when we got pregnant with #2. DD#2 was around 12 weeks old when we got pregnant this time. I haven't seen my OB yet so we will see what they say.  :)  But I wouldn't worry if I was you.

  • I forgot to add that my doctor said we were smart to have them "rapid fire" like we are.  I guess he thinks 23 months apart is rapid but I thought it was funny.

  • Around 18m.

It really does take time for your body to recover, and my MW recommended at least 2 years from birth to birth.  It gives your body time to rebuild it's stores of vitamins/minerals, besides the general get body back in shape.  Pregnancy is a big drain on our resources- it really shouldn't be a surprise that we need time to recover.

That said, it's just a little more risky/less healthy for both of you, like a million things in the world, and very unlikely to be a big deal.

  • No, you're fine (or so my ob told me.). WHY is she telling you? What are you supposed to do about it now? Get in your time machine and fly backwards to cd 1?

My children are 18 months apart. I mean some ob's think you shouldn't have a VBAC if you're had a c-section within 12 months.

If there was a problem-Michelle Dugger would have spontaneously combusted at some point, no?

For some reason it took us forever and a day to get and stay pregnant. Cancelled IVF, failed IUI's and a marriage in crisis sandwiched within two years. Now, we've been blessed with two girls and a Christmas Baby is on the way. Not planned but perfect. www.ApronStrings.typepad.com
  • My DD was 31 mos. I remember hearing a study that women should wait 5 years in between pregnancies...I feel like that is a looonngg time! A lot of people end up having 2 under 2 so obviously they are not waiting that long...my ob never said anything to me about waiting a certain amount of time...

  • I have 4 boys already and this will be my 5th child.  There are 4 years between DS#1 and DS#2, then when #2 was a mere 4 months old I conceived DS#3 and then when #3 was a mere 6 months old I conceived DS#4.  Yep, #2 and #3 are 14 mos apart and #3 and #4 are 16 mos apart and my pregnancies were not high risk and I had no complications.  Now, that wasn't planned and I wouldn't neccessarily recommend that b/c you're body does need a recovery period, but it didn't impose risk for me or the babies.  FWIW, just my story Smile

ETA:  FWIW, DS#1 and #2 were csections and DS#3 was a VBAC, just 14 months after giving birth via csection.

  • My DD was 19 months old when I got pregnant with this baby.

I hate people like that. Unless your head is up in my uterus seeing what is going on you have no idea what you are talking about.

My son just turned three but if I could have I would have loved to have had them very close together.
