Prometrium questions

Sorry I haven't done an intro on this board yet... I'm still a little nervous that I won't get to stay here for very long...

Anyway, re: Prometrium...I was on it last time around (started 200mg 2xday vaginally at 5w5d). I think my progesterone was between 10-11 at that time. This time I started the same dosage at 3w3d because my progesterone was 10.7 at 9dpo. My doctor would like my progesterone to be at 16 or above.

Does anyone have a different protocol with prometrium as far as dosage or taking it orally? What was your progesterone level when your doctor prescribed it? My doc said that the only difference w/ taking it orally would be more side effects but that it would have the same effectiveness. Just wanted to see what other perspectives there were out there on this... thanks!

I was prescribed Endometrin which can only be taken vaginally so I don't have facts from a doctor on this, but I think I have heard on here that Prometrium is more effective when take vaginally. I could be wrong about that though.

I actually don't know what mine is...it's just a progesterone suppository, not sure if there is a difference between that and prometrium or if it is the same thing. I've been taking 400mg once a day at bed time since 4DPO as a precaution. My dr wants prog levels to be above 20 during pregnancy mine were in the high 20s when we checked starting at 13 DPO.

I take 200mg of Prometrium twice a day orally. Last cycle I did this, I got PG and my progesterone numbers were off the charts ( CD21 = 174 and then I had another draw once I was PG and it was over 200). Prior to taking progesterone, my CD21 blood draw numbers were 3 and 7. Boo.

Side effects: tiredness/fatigue, facial flushing (hot flashes), dizziness (moderate and only for about an hour or so) - I also had sore boobs (but I get that every cycle). None of the side effects are too bad. The dizziness was the one that I was most concerned about, but it doesn't happen every day and it only last a short time.

I was on this too and my RE's office told me that all progesterone is more effective when taken vaginally because it puts the hormone right where it is needed to be absorb as opposed to it having to be digested and fed into the system.

I was on 200mg prometrium suppositories this cycle for the first time from 3DPO until 13wks. I inserted one pill at night so I didn't notice any side effects other than normal PG symptoms. My P4 shortly before my losses were 4.5 and 7.5, BUT my OBs said that P4 also drops when you are about to miscarry so that could have been the reason for my low numbers. They put me on supplements the next non-TTA cycle (this one) just in case. My first P4 draw this cycle was 24.5. My next and final one was around 26. HTH!

I was given Prometrium (100mg - oral 2xday) and took it for about a week and a half because I had an SCH at 5w6d. They tested my progesterone levels and I was at 37 - which the doc said was really good - but told me to keep taking the pills for another week. I didn't have a re-test of my levels while I was on it, so I'm not sure if it boosted my levels or not (assuming it did b/c it knocked me out the first day or so that I was on it and my chin is completely broken out).

hi!!!! Congrats again!! My doc had me on prometrium 100mg orally twice daily for an initial progesterone level of 18. My levels went up to 44 within 1 week with that dosage. I hope it goes well for you!! I'm crossing my fingers for you!
