What do I need the bedding set for??

I registerd for a bedding set at BRU, I think it comes with a huge quilt, one sheet, bumper, and bed skirt. It's kind of expensive and I'm not really sure I'll even get from either of my showers.

What the heck do I really need it for anyway? I guess I'm not supposed to put anything in the crib, and the only thing I really want is the bedskirt (I registered for extra sheets seperately) and I think I can make it myself. Is anyone else using an actual bedding set? What do you use the big blanket for, and are you using the bumpers that come with it?

Re: What do I need the bedding set for??

  • I ended up getting the "bedding set" a la carte.  I got 3 sheets, the bed skirt and the quilt.  I did not want the matching bumper b/c of the risks, so I got a pain breathable bumper (all from PBK)

I am going to use the quilt as decoration on the crib until he comes, then I will put it on the glider.   A lot of people us the quilts/blankets as wall decor too.

  • I didn't use a bedding set...just made the crib skirt using this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4HD0f6DVBk

It seems like a huge waste of money to me. Plus, I got extra fabric, so when she's bigger I can make a comforter or something out of the same fabric.

  • We aren't getting a bedding set because I was wondering the same thing. I'm making the valance and crib skirt from fabric I found on Babybedding.com, and we registered for crib sheets. We also bought breathable bumpers from BRU...I think they were like $16.99? Pretty cheap. When LO is older we'll get him a nice comforter, but I didn't really see the point Smile

  • after talking to lots of moms, I am only registered for a couple crib sheets, swaddle blankets, and a couple of the waterproof crib liner things. I also registered for a blanket that matches the sheets for when baby is a bit older. Definitely not wasting money on a set.
  • You don't need it. I think those bedding sets are a huge rip-off. I bought a crib skirt and a sheet and saved a ton of money!

  • You don't need a bedding set.  I made a crib skirt, bought some sheets, and I'm getting a breathable bumper.  Way cheaper (and IMO safer) than a bedding set.
  • I was in the same boat as you. I registered for a bedding set and then I thought about it and was like, holy cannoli that's a grip of money! Plus, I don't need the diaper bag thing, or the valance, or the quilt...so I took it off and registered for a few crib sheets. I found some fabric that I fell in love with and I'm going to make a crib skirt out of it and am still not decided between a traditional bumper or breatheable one.
  • I am not buying a bedding set either. I have a hand me down from my sister, which I like and goes w/ my theme.... so even if I did have to get SOMETHING, I would piece it together. They are a waste of $$ IMO.

  • I didn't register for a bedding set this time. I used the skirt and sheet for my first DD and didn't use the comforter, and took the bumper out before she was born. This time around my mom found me an adorable blanket that I like a lot, and I am registering for matching sheets. on www.younghouselove.com (I think) there is a how-to video on how to make a crib skirt :)

I saw that, and I'm planning on doing that instead of me or someone else paying almost $300 for bedding I can't even use! I can't buy the skirt that I want a la carte, so I will try to make it myself.

Thanks ladies, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way!
