I have been jumping through insurance hoops today, and I'm fed up with the beaurocracy! It's preventing me from seeing a doctor at all to check on LO.
I have medical insurance, but they don't cover maternity. I've been applying for medicaid, but it's possible FH makes too much money for me to qualify. I called my current insurance to verify what they would cover, and they would only step in to cover a medical issue that would be life threatening to the baby. If, for example, I were in a car crash, they would cover my treatment, but they wouldn't cover checking on the baby to make sure it's ok.
I called to a few offices today for a price quote. If we are paying for it all ourselves, it would all cost about $4,500! We don't have that kind of money. They would require a $500 just to see a doctor before I have my medicaid card (assuming I get it) that wouldn't be refundable until after delivery. One place even wanted a $1k deposit!
I'm crossing my fingers that medicaid goes through otherwise I don't think LO is going to get any monitoring. At this rate, I won't be able to go to a doctor until I'm nearly in my 2nd trimester, meaning if my levels fall there's nothing I can do about it unless a medical condition is causing it. It has me on edge because with this situation there's no way for me to know if the pregnancy is in jeopardy until it's too late. I can't even get a more accurate due date or know it's still there!
Anyone else facing an insurance battle that's keeping you from seeing a doctor?

From what I've heard, your income basically doesn't matter when it comes to maternity coverage on medicaid. I know plenty of people that didn't have insurance, made a lot more than the income requirements for regular medicaid but were able to get covered for maternity. I hope the same is true for you.
I would definitely call around and see if there are any free clinics until you get your medicaid card in.
I have talked to some free clinics today, and they don't provide prenatal care. Thank you for the helpful suggestion though.
