  • This may sound harsh, but due date changes this late in the game are not usually in your best interest.  Your Dr just moved up your pregnancy's  'expiration date' basically.

  • Thank you and yes I am very excited about seeing my baby sooner!! I am still enjoying my pregnancy but i would rather have him at the beginning than the end!

I have always heard and been told by my OB that dating a pregnancy from an ultrasound at 20 weeks is not accurate. My OB told me the first time that is why they do dating ultrasounds early (6-8 weeks or so).

Did you have a previous ultrasound that gave you a different due date? Why did you have a feeling you were further along? If you are going off when you think you ovulated then I would be more likely to think the new due date is accurate. It would just be bad if they scheduled you early for a c-section or induction for some reason and you were really 2 weeks earlier than they thought.

  • well the reason i thought i was further along is because my periods have always been so unpredictable... so we had to just make an estmate on when my last period was so i wasnt surprised at all when they told me a dfferent due date tday at our scan

Ditto, early u/s are used for dating because after that point each baby grows a little different dependent on genetics and all. I'd clarify with your dr though which due date they are going to hold you to. I wouldn't want the pressure to 'expire' earlier. As great as the anticipation to be done with at the end, personally I stress about being under the countdown watch too.

  • not everyone has early ultrasounds though....  so how does that work?  some docs only send you for the 20 week ultrasound.  for example.. my doctor.

Actually I think most doctors don't do early u/s. Unfortunately EDD is usually based off of your LMP. That's not 100% either. IMHO, I don't know the specific % but I think the LMP is typically considered more accurate than a later u/s.

I had an early u/s each time, but that was also based on the fact that for the last two pregnancies I had no LMP to go off of. For Turtle that 'early' u/s dated me around 11-12 weeks and I never felt like it was accurate. He was just about two weeks 'late' and we almost had to have an induction.
