I have the 8 drawer and every single drawer is full. The small drawers have: 1- Socks, shoes, 2- Burp rags, bibs, 3 - extra wipes and extra diapers (in case the basket on the table runs out.. the rest are in the closet) 4 - first aid (thermometer, qtips, nail clippers, etc). The larger drawers: 5 - onsies, shorts, jumpers, daytime clothes, 6 - pajamas and sleepsacks, 7 - sheets and blankets, 8 - clothes for later (the bigger stuff). But that is all I have to store his stuff, since the closet in his room is filled with boxes of holiday decor, his jumperoo and other stuff he isn't ready for yet. On top I have a changing pad, and two baskets.

I would go with the larger one if you have the money and the room. Baby clothes are very tiny, but they get bigger. I wish we would have gotten a double dresser for my daughter when she was born, now we have to buy her a new dresser because there isn't enough room for her clothes.

We have the 8 drawer and it's pretty full and LO isn't even here yet. I have all her sheets, burp cloths, blankets, etc in it as well as some folded clothes, diapers, socks, shoes, etc.
I will also stress the need for an 8-drawer. We have it. We LOVE it, and couldn't do with less. Here's our organization:
4 top drawers: 1 - burp rags and waterproof pads (Lap pads?) 2 - bibs 3 - hats and hair accessories (but we don't use any bows on DD) 4 - extra sleeps sacks (used to be swaddles) and also swimsuits
2 middle drawers: long sleeved and short sleeved onesies with pants all shoes/slippers/socks she's every received
2 bottom "big" drawers: pjs, babylegs, tights, shorts extra diapers not in the fabric basket on top and overnites, extra changing pad and extra boppy cover
I know we have a lot more for DD because we receive second-hand stuff from friends, but I couldn't imagine hanging up most of that!! It's a PITA!

I wanted the 8 drawer because I figure LO would grow into needing more space but got the 3 drawer because of space. It is plenty of room for baby stuff because I hung a lot of the clothes. There is definitely room for a changing pad on top. I would say the 8 drawer would have been nice but I've had plenty of room in my 3 drawer. (I have blankets and swaddlers and extra sheets in the bottom drawer too)

I bought the 3 drawer too which seems plenty big - the 8 drawer was huge! Bigger than my dresser even, and too big for the nursery. There's plenty of room for the changing pad on top. And we're only planning on using a portion of the small closet in the nursery for LO. But I'm big on storing off-season and clothes that don't fit, and I HATE clutter so I don't see myself buying (or keeping) tons of clothes for a baby.
However, I also have a 9-cubby bookshelf thing with those fabric drawers where I'm storing bibs, burp clothes, blankets, etc...

I'd prefer to get the 3 drawer but this is my first child...
do babies really need 8 drawers (I actually have the Hemnes 8 drawer for myself and it is HUGE)?
Also, is the 3 drawer big enough to put a changing pad on top of it?
We have the three drawer and have been fine so far. DD is almost a year and I think that we'll be fine for a long time to come. Every few months we pack up any clothes that don't fit and move them in the basement. I think an eight drawer would be nice if it fit well in your room but that it's not necessary. We have the changing pad on top and it's worked well although it's starting to get a little short (as is the changing pad itself!).

We have the 3 drawer as well, and I feel like the 3 drawers are wider and deeper than the 4 large drawers in the 8 drawer version, which probably helps.
We have our change pad on top, with room for small baskets beside it still. We too have a cubby shelf with baskets that hold receiving blankets, bibs, etc. Most clothes are in the closet, CD and accessories are in the top 2 Hemnes drawers, and blankets in the bottom dresser drawer. We bought the drawer dividers for the top drawer (Skobe or something?) which were awesome for organizing the little things in the top drawer.
