So my LO has allergies and I've tried to take out some feedings and replace with coconut milk. He doesn't want it. He will drink the milk sometimes but he still wants me and keeps signing for me to feed him.
This was a while ago and I gave up and haven't tried.
He is 14 months BTW, I can't figure out how to change my clicker! (Help?)
So does it just come when they decide to stop feedings? He is a boob boy all the way.... I still feed every 3 hours but sometimes he won't tell me but I just feed him anyways. I need to just wait til he tells me right?
I just am scared if I don't feed him that he'll wake up more in the night : /
Anyone have advice? I would love to stop even 1 feeding as I am still nursing 7-8 times in a 24 hour period!!!
Thanks guys!
Re: Lessening up feedings help
I'd start only feeding him when asked, as ever 3 hours for a 1 yr old sounds a bit much to me. Are you doing solids?
I'm personally not a fan of coconut milk, so I don't blame your DS! When we switched my first over to milk, I sweetened the deal a bit. We started out mixing breast milk and cows milk (or whatever you are switching to) and then kept reducing the amount of breast milk. I also would occasionally make a 'smoothie' by pureeing part of a banana in his milk to make it a bit sweeter (he was doing a lot of solids by then, so we weren't introducing anything new with that). Gradually I decreased the 'additives' until it was just the cows milk and he took to it like a champ. We generally did the sippy of milk during solids feeding, as I recall, so there was more of a set time for that. It helped that I worked out of the house, so DS was used to not always eating from me.
You mean he has a dairy allergy? I'm not the right person to ask since my almost 3 year old JUST weaned, but it sounds TOTALLY normal to me. I would say she went down to 3 a day right before my son was born, so about 18 months or a little earlier.
If you want, start the "don't offer, don't refuse" method. It sounds like he might space it on his own. Chances are he won't wake up more often because of that, as long as you offer another beverage often so he isn't thirsty and he eats a good deal of solids (for his needs - that changes from kid to kid).
DS is about his age too and still doing the same thing, if not more often, so again, it sounds totally normal. When we were at Disneyland and going nonstop all day he only nursed 3 times a day. It was soooo weird!
Yes he has dairy problems and its the reason I chose coconut milk. I think the suggestion with half and half is a good idea!
So your LO is eating every 3 hours? I do notice if we are out and about he doesn't really ask as much. We are going on vacation next week and will be having fun at the beach/aquarium ect ect. I wonder if that would be a good time.
Do you offer a lot of water then? I think mainly he is thirsty and just asks me for milk because he can't ask for a drink and only signs milk...
You made me feel better tho that it isn't crazy. I don't know anyone BF beyond a year and eating so much. Most are at 3 times a day or so...
Thanks! Ya I know that can happen. I'm also pumping for a lady as well!
I think I am getting wearing down. I will feed him to as close as 2 years as I can get but 8 times a day at that age, I might go crazy. Lol I mean its not bad and I'm ok with it BUT 1 feeding would just be nice!
I agree. We started this at a year and it made some difference. Then around 18 months I started more actively limiting nursing sessions. That's when we finally got down to 3-4 each day.
Cool. I started when he got up from his nap. I'd say it helped a bit! Thanks ladies!
