January 2012 Moms

New here and question

Hello ladies! First let me apologize if there are any weird formatting or spelling errors- I'm posting from my phone. I got my BFP on Friday at 10 DPO and according to FF my due date is January 31 so I am at the very end of the month, however lmp puts my due date on the 26th but I'm sticking with the 31st until my dr says otherwise. I'm not really experiencing any definitive pg symptoms yet but I have been pretty thirsty and seem to be getting more tired every day but I think these things could be just as likely symptoms of being on vacation in Disney world with my whole family including 8 yo SD as of pregnancy. I guess time will tell! It has been hard not to tell every one that I'm pregnant but I at least want to see the doctor first before we decide when to tell although I'm leaning towards not until after 1st tri. Dh and I did tell my mother but she is the only one for now. Any way, I guess I am still a little in shock about the whole thing and I just don't feel connected to the whole thing yet. This is my first pregnancy and I'm not sure that I am doing a good job explaining what I'm talking about but when did you start feeling connected to your baby? It just all feels so unreal now and I just don't feel like I expected to.

I am also pregnant with my first. I guess I feel a little "unconnected" as well, but I know that it is still so early. I have been having some very mild symptoms like bloating, cramping, and fatigue which remind me that there's something cooking in there. Every day it seems a little more real.

  • Welcome! We're due about the same time! My dates are between the 25th and the 29th until I get a dating u/s. We already told everyone, but that's just the way I am, and I know we will want the support of our family & friends should something go wrong, and I think it will be easier to tell them something bad happened if they were in the loop in the first place, but I totally get why some people wait too. It's a personal choice.

As for your question, I think it's different for everyone. Our first u/s with DS was good, but he didn't look like a baby yet, and you can only see the heartbeat. For me, I really felt the "connection" I think you are talking about the first time we got to hear the heartbeat. That was really a special moment.

Stupid pregnancy hormones. Now I am sitting here crying about it. I can't wait to hear this baby's heartbeat!!!

  • Congrats and Welcome. My bday is the 1/31 and I think it's a great day to be born Wink

I think it's pretty common at first to not feel connected. I think that first time you see or hear the heartbeat really does a lot to help. That first u/s(if you are able to get on is so special. It's really becomes real when you see something alive inside of you. I wouldn't be too concerned yet.

Glad to have you on the board

  • Welcome!

With my DD I felt the same way....it is hard to feel "connected" to something that you have not seen yet.  But believe me, it comes in time....as you progress through your pregnancy and hear the HB and have an ultrasound you will definitely feel more connected.

    Good luck!

Honestly, I didn't feel truly connected to my DD until she was born.  IMO, it's hard to be connected to the **idea** of something....we were team green so I was more connected to the excitement of having a baby...and more connected to my DH during the pregnancy....and of course as DD got bigger, we had the U/S and saw her...but for me...it wasn't until I could actually hold her and see/smell her that I felt the incredible connection that everyone talks about on here.  I felt guilty that I didn't feel it and jealous of everyone else that did but I now know that it just happens differently for everyone....no 2 pregnancies are alike, including this!

So whatever you emotions you feel over the next 9 months...just know that they're ALL totally normal!!

GL and happy healthy 9 months to you!
