u/s, heartbeat and 1 concern

Just got back from my 1st u/s, baby is measuring right on schedule and we got to hear the heartbeat at 129 beats per minute.

She did find 2 fibroids (sp?!?) that are measuring about 3-4cm each. Has anyone else had this. I'm sure I spelt that completely wrong.

    Sorry to ditto the PPs, but I also don't know anything about fibroids, but I am totally jealous that you got to hear a heartbeat so early!!!!

    I personally don't have any experience with fibroids, but I know of a few women (including my mom) who have had them and it did not bother then during the pregnancy nor did it pose any danger to them or the baby. They can be surgically removed but may actually get better or disappear with the pregnancy. So I think you should be ok. Of course it's always better to talk to the doc about it, but if she didn't say anythig in particular I wouldn't worry about it. Hope all goes smoothly :)

    When I went in for an u/s at 5 weeks due to spotting/cramping, they said that I had a fibroid also. I asked if it would cause any issues during this or any later pregnancies and the doctor said that it shouldn't. I also had some cysts and although they mentioned that they may rupture during the pregnancy, they shouldn't cause any issues either.

    I had an u/s back in January becasue I thought I had a cyst and it ended up being that I was ovulating...which is technically a cyst bursting but nothing else showed up.

    She mentioned that there is a possibility the fibroids could obstruct the baby from coming all the way down for a vaginal delivery if they get worse or keep the baby breached but they would monitor to make sure. I have my heart set on a natural delivery so that would bum me out. But I guess each birth happens as it's supposed to, not always how we want to.

    Congratulations on the great news about baby.  I don't know anything about the fibroids.  Did the Dr seem concerned at all?
