Babies: 0 - 3 Months

If your baby HATES the car, come on in!

My LO screams her head off from the time I pull out of my driveway until I take her carseat out of the car.  She absolutely HATES it!  Anybody have any tips to keep their LO happy while in the car?

  • We're dealing with the same thing, haven't found anything that seems to be a solution.  Some days he does ok if he's tired or if he just ate, other days he hates it.  I've been told that most kids will grow out of it....I hope it's soon, being in the car is pure torture!

  • My oldest was like this for a while but eventually mellowed out about it.

We got a mirror somewhat similar to this that has both lights and sound / music. She would fall asleep to the music.

I would try to find one with lights to catch her attention.

yep, i am right there w you!!  it sucks and makes me feel like i dont want to take her anywhere b/c it causes so much upset.  i have a little hanging bug toy, a FP monkey mirror, and i took the infant carseat padding out (since she tends to get hot/sweaty) but they havent helped.  i tried cracking the car window (to make a white noise sound), putting static on the radio, turning it up, down, off.......i am up for any other suggestions too!

You can just use static radio. Turn on an AM station that doesn't come in. Works wonders.

  • Static never really worked for my LO.  I got her a bright toy bar that plays music which adds about 10 minutes to her tolerance threshold.  The other thing that works for her is really heavy metalcore music.  I will only play Christian bands, though.  I'd rather she not be exposed to violent and graphic lyrics even though I know she doesn't know what those words mean.  I tried mellow music like Bob Dylan and the Beatles, but she wasn't having any of that!  Weird, I know.
  • DS used to be great in the car but the past week, he's a maniac!!  Screams and Screams!!  I bought the same FP monkey mirror and nothing... he doesn't even look at it!!

My DS was like this.  He would scream from the second I put him in his car seat until I got him out.  Static didn't work, tpys and mirrors were a bust.  Until we moved him from the infant seat to the RF convertible he screamed.

  • almost EVERY baby i know has had this at the beginning. My son was the same and now it's my daughters turn.It will pass, just try to remember that and don;t feel bad if you have to crank the music for your sanity/

DS1 was this way.  We tried everything, but the Fisher Price Rainforest Lullaby CD from Target played loud was the trick.  Plus, it calmed us down, too, and it wasn't super annoying.
