Pregnant after 35

Baby #2 at 44! Help, need support!

Hi, I'm Michelle and was told I couldn't have children yet got pregnant at 41 with my Son who is now 2 and I'm pregnant again, i will be 44 next month. Due Date 01/12/2012! I am miserable this time around at only 6 weeks and I have to have a tooth extracted, have been in major pain and on antibiotics, which in turn caused the worst yeast infection I have ever had, I need a filling put in, have a terrible cold and nausea like crazy! With my Son nothing, it took all 10 sonograms and even til I was in labor to believe I was even pregnant with him! I'm having a real hard time, I want this baby so bad, but don't think my body or mind can handle it. I am having a lot of anxiety over my health as well as his or hers! After having my son I had 3 major health conditions come about and I deal with them daily best I can. I suppose I should of taken better precautions to not become pregnant again, but as I said I want another child, but don't want to be pregnant, ugh! Sorry, my hormones are raging too I guess, I cry at the drop of a hat! I have gained 5 of the only 15lbs Doc said I should already stress eating! I do have a great supportive DH, but he works 2 jobs and is never home. My Mom, who lives real close says to me, I had four of you basically get over it, I tell her you may have but not in your 40's! Somebody please tell me feeling this way is temporary!

    Hi!

Wow!  It sounds like you have a lot going on.  I'm 40 and pregnant with my first so I can't be of much help with what's to come - you can probably give me more guidance.  But I just wanted to reach out and tell you to take a breath and give yourself a break.  You are being hit with a lot at once and it will get better.  Your health problems will start to resolve.  I know the first trimester was so hard on me and it became all about survival.  It didn't matter what I ate - as long as I ate. It didn't matter about the house if I needed to sleep.  I think we know this intellectually but when you are sick and tired and overwhelmed you need someone to remind you that it's ok to get off the ride for a minute.  Just keep saying - this too shall pass. Good luck!!!!

  • wow....

all i can say is take day by day, the first trimester is hard enough, you feel tired, morning sickness and you feel you wont make it to 40 wks, but it all passes, i was there also, look at the bright side your 2 yr old will have a baby sister or brother, its a blessing , i know i was not planning on having anymore kids , my youngest is 13 yrs , my oldest is 23 yrs, im going to be 43 when i deliver shy of 3 months of turning 44, it was scary at first but , you read on this forum and see how all this older moms have survived and enjoyed it., good luck and it will get better

  • Thank you ceelee and shabby girl! Today, is just one bad day of many good ones to come. I need to just stay positive, remember this is a blessing, take those deep breaths and stop going bi-polar on everyone. My first step, advice from another, is to exercise, I am a walker and am going to get back to it, and honestly, things have gone down hill since I stopped a week ago. I stopped only because I wasn't feeling well, but honsestly it always helped me feel better emotionally and physically, so what am I waiting for?! I should start feeling better after I get this tooth pulled too, it's been dragging me down!
  • I don't have too much to add other than I am really sorry - it sounds like you are having quite the rough patch rightnow.  It will get better.

And I have to say that I agree with you - start exercising again.  It will make you feel better inside and out.  Exercise has a way of making everything feel better.

  • It'll all be okay.  :)

    I'm 43, Little Margaux is 19 months-ish.

The first trimester STINKS!  I hate it sooo much.  Try not to fret too much about the 5 pounds, I bloated a bit in the first tri, and I was certainly stopped up, if you know what I'm saying.  I had a crown put in just this morning, and I'm starting to be able to feel my face again.  Talk to the dentist, mine just put a temporary filling in until I reached the third trimester.

Oh, and welcome, and congratulations!  Great due date!

ETA:  Oh, I recommend yoga.  Great stuff.  :)

  • Hang in there. This board has already given you some great support and feedback it looks like. I love the suggestions of taking it a day at a time and yoga. Anything to help calm you down and focus on the bigger picture. I don't know if this helps at all, but I'm a true "if it's meant to be" kind of girl. I seem to think that what happens in this earthly existence is/was meant to be, and I live by that. It's not always easy, and sometimes it's stressful (even sad/confusing), but anything worth having is never going to be a piece of cake. I do wish you well and hope you can find some solace within the events that are happening right now. Keep us posted?

  • I'm 40 and pregnant with (the surprise) #4. The sad part is that I really didn't want a #4! We were finished having babies and had moved on and gotten rid of everything.  It took me several months to come to terms with the pregnancy.  Now...I am thrilled!!  It has been hard this time around because I'm older & have three little guys to keep up with, but I can't wait to meet this new baby.

I guess I just want you to know that you will start to feel better about things.  You just need time to process it all.  I had health issues right before I found out that I was pg and was on four different meds that should NOT be taken while pregnant.  It was all pretty scary, but the baby looks good & things are chugging along.

We are here to support you!!  Hang in there!

  • Hi.  I don't have too much to add since I'm 42 and pregnant with my first (will be 43 at delivery) and I'm only at 11.5 weeks.   However, I think it's important to take everything one day at a time.  Don't worry so much about what may happen in the 3rd trimester or even after the baby is born - you'll drive yourself crazy.  (I know - my DH says I do it all the time).   I also recommend acupuncture.  I started it in March because it's supposed to help with fertility and now that I'm pregnant I'm still going once a week b/c it's sooooo relaxing.  I've never been a fan of needles but somehow it calms me down.  Hang in there and keep us posted on your progress...

  • Just wanted to say that everyone's given great advice - first tri is hard, especially with all the extra stuff you've got going on.  But just get through it one day at a time and eventually your energy will come back and you'll start enjoying it!  And stick around, this is a great bunch of women, you can't find much better support than here!

    Welcome and congrats!

  • You people are inspirational!  I'm 40, had #2 at 39 and thought a #3 was probably out of the question due to my age.  Wow, I never dreamed there were so many 40+ new moms!

Congrats on this new baby!   And hang in there - it will get better.  You will get through it and have fun with two.
