Potty training progress

So we have been trying to potty train DS and it has been slooooooow.  He goes after his bath, but that is basically it - and he has never pooped.  We always ask him, but he is pretty resistant.

We had been thinking about just taking a weekend and going cold turkey, but I want him to be going more often than once a day.

Last week he had a pedi appt and I was discussing it with her.  She wasn't concerned, but she gave me a suggestion.  She said to get a big clear jar filled with M&M's and put it where he could see it but not reach, and tell him that he gets one for peeing and two for pooping

Well, I got the stuff at Target today and he ASKED to use the potty before nap.  He was bummed that he couldn't poop (he had just gone in his diaper).  I wasn't really sure about using candy for rewards, but at this point we are getting desperate.  Hopefully this will get him on board!

  • We used gummy worms and it was the perfect motivation for Mo. She still gets one a night if she stays dry (and poop free in her panties) all day. Whatever works!

  • This is what we are doing for DD however she is stubborn and doesn't always want to go. Keep with it, he will get it. FWIW, DS wasn't 100% trained until he was just over 4. He refused to poop and it took us going cold turkey on trying for it to click with him. Goog luck!

  • Ben is totally resistant to potty training.  Occasionally, he will ask to sit on the potty, but never does anything.  If I ask/suggest if he wants to sit on it, he tells me, "No thanks!".  I am totally stealing this idea.

BTW, I can't believe how big Charlie and Sam are both getting!  Too cute!

  • This could  be me writing this post.  It sounds like my DS 100%. A few months ago, he was going pee pretty regularyly everyday.  He has only pooped on the toilet one time.  I'm not sure what happened, but he stopped going and we are lucky if he will go only right before bed.  We've tried the M & M's, potty chart, new potty chair, leaving him alone, new underware, etc...if we leave him alone he is content to just go in his pull-up.  If he has underware on, he will wait to poop, ask for a pull-up and poop in there.  I dont know what to do.  He seems like he is lazy, but I know he is just not ready.  I'll tell him, "someday, you'll really surprise me and go on the potty all by yourself."  Someday...He just looks at me and smiles.  I hope the M&M's work for you. Good luck, I hope something clicks soon, on both of our ends.
Anyone can be cool, but awesome takes practice!
  • jallen, I am afraid to even use pullups for just that reason!  If we can get him to go a few more times a day then we are just going to take a weekend and go cold turkey and hope for the best.  If DS was 2, I wouldn't be worried about it.  Good luck to you!

Cheryll, thanks!  We need some updated pics of Ben!  How was Jordan's prom?  Also, I have no idea if this is in Sean's exact field, but I saw a posting for an IT job from Swiss Farms on my FB feed.

If the bump gods will ever fix my siggy issues, I will post updated pics of the kids.  Jordan's prom is next Friday.  She looks so pretty in her dress.  :)

I'll check out that job, thanks!
