Cars!!

What kind of cars are you ladies driving?

I drive a Honda Accord right now which is slightly cramped for DH with the rear facing seat behind the passenger seat (He's 6'4) Now that they are looking at changed the laws and having rear facing til 2 years we may need to look at something a little bigger.

TIA!!

Re: Cars!!

  • We don't have it yet but we're hoping to get a Traverse this month.  We want a three-row vehicle for road trips; plenty of cargo space (with a cargo box up top that we will buy separately) and one of us will be able to sit back there and tend to the kids without having to stop and get out of the car every single time one of them needs something.  Also, if we have an oopsy #3, we'll already have a large car, lol.

  • I had a Honda Cr-V and LOVED it!!! it was great for the 2 kids, though DH said he felt squished (he's 6'1). We traded it in for a new Honda Odyssey 2 weeks ago and I cannot believe I am admitting this but I LOVE LOVE LOVE my mini van. It's so spacious. The 3rd row seating folds completely flat, it's so roomy inside even DH says he likes it a lot. It's the only mini-van on the market that holds 3 car seats in the 2nd row. The rest are all captains chais. So I would of had to have DD climb in the 3rd row, put DS and the new baby in the 2nd row, get them situated and then climb in myself to the back row to get her strapped in but because the seats actually lift and move out one inch on either side, it's a legal car seat holding seat! So now DD will climb into the middle seat, I'll put DS in an end seat, put the baby in the other end seat and then only reach across to fasten DD in. I LOVE it! I'm a 2 under 2 mom twice so this is the best vehicle for me. :-)

I have a 2002 Honda Civic and both kids are RF in the back seat. It's a little cramped but it's not bad. I get GREAT gas mileage so I'm not "upgrading" or changing cars until we have a 3rd (we'll try again when DS is 1)... I bought my car brand new and I love it, even if it is cramped. DD is 23 lbs and almost 22 months so we could change her to FF in a couple of months which would give us more room. However, I plan to keep her RF until she maxes out on her seat at 35 lbs or until she appears way to cramped RF. She's tall (90%) but skinny (5%) so we'll see.
  • We've got 2 Camrys now and will likely upgrade to a Sienna if/when we are pregnant with no. 3.  But, DD1 is getting very close to needing the extended headrest on her RFing car seat, and that's going to make it pretty tight in there, so we'll see...we might get the Sienna sooner rather than later. It's just nice to have both the cars paid off, etc. and I'm not sure we're ready to sacrifice savings for a bigger car.

  • I've got a Chevy Tahoe, and before this drove a Toyota Sequoia.  I'd recommend either vehicle if you are considering a large SUV. Plenty of room for the two car seats and double stroller AND a load of groceries.  ;)

  • We've got a Toyota RAV4 (before it was redesigned bigger).. and my DD is still RFing in her marathon.. and the front passenger seat is pushed forward.. not fun for my 6'4" DH if I'm driving...

So.. we're going to keep her in that position until she's two and put her FFing behind the driver's seat.  When the new LO is first born, he'll have to go behind driver's seat, then we'll swtich the carseats around when his sister can go FFing.  It won't fit behind the driver's seat.

My DH is trying to convince me of getting an Odyssey or Sienna.. but I just CAN'T get a minivan... I want a Pilot or a Highlander.... I want AWD for the snow (I think Sienna has it?).. but we'll test drive and see in a year or so... who knows what they'll have by then?

  • I love my Acura MDX.  We had a Honda Accord when DD1 was born and we felt cramped with all of her stuff for road trips.  When we found out our family was expanding we upgraded to the MDX to fit 2 PnPs, 2 strollers, etc.  Love it!

  • We have a 2010 Subaru Legacy.  There is so much room in the backseat.  We bought it for its safety ratings, AWD and GREAT gas mileage (we average about 32 mpg).  We LURVE it!!

This is by far the best vehicle I've ever owned, and we put DS1 in his RF convertible behind DH and DS2's infant carseat behind me.  We are plenty comfortable.  I am 5'7 and DH is 6'2".

  • If you plan on having a 3rd a mini van is almost a must!  My DH didn't want one, but now we are in love!  SO much easier to get the kids in and out!!  We have a Toyota Sienna but the Odyssey is awesome as well.

  • The Sienna has awd, but only as a 7 seater, so with the middle captain's chairs.
