Or at least not have one in your main living area? I am finding that lately we are watching WAY too much TV. I am the main culprit and I will fully admit that. Also, we didn't let DS watch ANY television at all until he was 2 and even then it was one episode of his favorite show in the morning and one before bed.
Now it has morphed into 3, sometimes 4, episodes a day and they scream and cry when the TV gets shut off. I am thinking if there was a ever a time to try this the Summer would be perfect. I have been reading more lately and get my daily news/entertainment from the internet and we do have a TV in our bedroom if the kids were sick and needed to pop in a video. We will be outside more and going on vacation, etc. We can always revisit the idea of bringing it back in the Winter when there are fewer options as far as entertainment goes.
Anyone successfully done this?

Re: Anyone NOT have a TV?
We got rid of it last April with the intent of no TV for a year. I guess it's been over a year, but I don't miss it. We do have netflix and a nice desktop computer, so DH and I still keep up with a lot of our favorite shows, watch movies, and the boys can watch Dora or Diego. I like netflix because a) there are no commercials, and b) when a show is over, it's over. There is no "next show" playing. So, I can put on Diego and go do something in the kitchen, then 24 minutes later, DS will join me. No tears.
It's been a great decision for our family. I say go for it.

We have a TV, but no service. We don't watch anything but an occasional date night rental. It saves us about $70 per month (which is what our old satellite package cost). DH is in school FT and working FT, and I have DS1 to watch and DS2 to prepare for, and a house to clean, and a new financial venture to research and prepare for... Who are we kidding? We don't have time for TV, so why we were cramming in TV at all is beyond me.
We have gone 18 months with no TV before, and we've gotten rid of it again indefinitely. I am so happy to see it go.
My mom got rid of our tv when I was about 10.
SO and I JUST bought a TV (the first one I've had since I was a kid)
I really wish we wouldn't have because now we watch waaaay too much.
Basically I think can totally be done. Especially with a netflix subscription (8 bucks a month I think) you can still watch a show on the a laptop or something when you want.
We have a TV and hardly watch it. It's on maybe 1 weekday morning a week for a Curious George/Super Why episode. Other than that it's off until the news. Sometimes we go all day without watching it.
We've seriously considered getting rid of cable but we love sports too much.
I grew up without tv. My parents got cable after I got out of grad school. We had local channels, maybe 3 of them? but we were not allowed to watch them, except for Mash and the nightly business news at 7:00pm. We spent summers and weekends at a different house that had no TV at all. It was a bit much for me honestly. I have read a lot of books, some of which I probably should not have read. It is a trade off.
But for the fact that DH is the cable man, as in works for the cable company and is a total TV head, I could easily get rid of it and just have netflix, though I do think there is a benefit to having some cultural TV. I pretty much missed all that and don't really think that what I got instead was particularly helpful beyond a certain point. People need some way to relax.
We don't. My H and I decided try going tv-free for a year after we got married. That was 6 years ago and we have no regrets.
I watch shows online occasionally and DS watches maybe an hour of youtube clips per week.
