Is anyone NOT doing kick counts?

I am usually an overacheiver, plan and document kind of girl, but I just feel like I don't really want or need to do kick counts. I feel her reliably each day, and when I wonder, I will try to count but is anyone NOT doing them every single day?

Re: Is anyone NOT doing kick counts?

  • I'm not. I dont have the time and I feel him all the time anyways.

  • I haven't been told by my doc to do kick counts yet, so I'm not really doing them. I do find myself counting once in a while during an active time just for the fun of it though. For the most part I feel LO move morning, noon, afternoon, late evening and then VERY late evening when I am trying to sleep. lol

  • I'm not.  The doc hasn't mentioned anything to me about doing them.  Told me that until 32 weeks, she should be moving quite a bit, and then it slows down after 32 weeks because of the lack of room in there.

But, in short, no, not doing kick counts.

I'm not.. Unless my Dr. recommends to do so I don't plan on it either.. she moves throughout the day.

  • Nope, it would freak me out if it wasn't perfect.  I'd rather not add extra stress to my life if I don't need to.

  • I don't. I feel him everyday. I never did it with DD either. I figure that would just tive me reasons to freak out!

  • I only do them when i feel like he hasn't been as active as usual. He's pretty active for the most part but there are some days when he is pretty quiet, so on those days I will do the counting but thats about it.

I couldnt imagine adding that to my day! I'm pretty busy as it is. If I don't feel him for more than 24 hours or so I'll just call my dr.

  • I'm not. My doctor didn't ask me to yet. She did ask me yesterday how active he was, and since I was doing my glucose test he was like a rabid monkey in there, so she got to feel exactly how active he was as she chased him around with the doppler.

  • I never have.  I have a million things running through my mind daily and if I had to try and remember to do that I'd be screwed; I forget everything now.  I feel him all the time so no biggie, plus my midwife never mentioned anything about it.

I'm not.  My Dr. hasn't brought it up.  I have been feeling her every day.  Some days more than others, but just when I get a little nervous, I get a good jab, and I figure it's a sign that all is good in there.  :)
  • I'm not.. he moves sooo much throughout the day that I never worry :)

  • i don't do them a lot. If he starts kicking I might stop and count to 10, but i don't do it every day.
  • I'm not and didn't with first one until I was asked to (at 40wks when my blood pressure went crazy). Just too busy, and at this stage baby kicks often enough that it's becoming normal. LOL

  • My doc has not asked me to, he just wants to know that the LO has been reliable also. Of course, I am high risk, so he sees the baby once a week.

  • My doctor hasn't mentioned anything to me, so no.

But dumb question - how do you actually count them? My LO's movements are so sporadic that I don't know how you would count each one. Some are clear kicks, but some are more rolling/twitchy feelings and it's not like they're timed evenly or anything. I thnk I would drive myself crazy trying to keep track.

ETA - nm, I saw a link in the earlier post about how to count, but I still don't know how I would make it work.

  • I'm not. My OB said I didn't need to unless I noticed that the little guy seemed to be less active. He said even then, do counts just to make sure they are normal and then don't worry about it. To me as long as you notice the baby is active.. then they are pointless.

  • I'm not.  I'm not even sure exactly what to count or for how long.  My doctor hasn't mentioned anything about counting.  She just asked if I feel the baby move every day, which I do.

  • i'm not. my doc asked if i'm feeling her move yet. i said yes and that was the end of the "movement" conversation.

  • I'm not doing them.  I figure it is just one more thing to make me nervous, and my OB hasn't mentioned them at all.  I make sure I feel her every now and then, and know the usual times that I feel her.  If something seems off I get the dopplar out and listen to the heartbeat.  That reassures me, and usually makes her move around. :)

Not yet. I am assuming after tomorrow's appointment my doctor will start asking me to do them.

  • I haven't been told to do them.  I feel her regularly every day but the times are just not the same... it all depends on how active I am during the day.  When I am moving around a lot I don't feel her as much but as soon as I sit and rest she is always bouncing around.

  • My doctor has not advise me to do them as of yet. My little guy is pretty active throughout the day. Only on the days when he is quiet I count. He is actually moving right now as I type this post. LOL!

  • When I asked my OB, he said that as long as she's moving at her regular times, there's no need to do kick counts. He said if she doesnt move at a couple of her regular times then to call.

My doc said you count ANY movement at all... the big kicks, the tiny flutters, anything at all.  And you hope to feel 10 in the space of 2 hours.  He also said you are counting during the baby's active time, not at any random time of the day.

  • I'm not doing counts either.  My doctor hasn't said anything about it yet, and I feel my son pretty much all day long so I'm not worried about anything.  Even if he has a lazy day I'm not going to get paranoid about it...we all have days like that!

  • I'm supposed to be, but I assume that if I feel him consistently enough throughout the day then things are fine. I know that he takes naps sometimes, and I really don't want to think "what if I sit down to pay attention and he doesn't move in this 30 minutes" (My dr. does 3 movements in 30 minutes). Even though he was moving all day, am I still supposed to go to the hospital? I think not. If he goes for an unusual amount of time without moving, I'll go in.

  • I asked my doctor if I should be doing this at my appt yesterday, and he looked at me like I was crazy. He said do not stress over that, just to call the office if I don't feel the baby kick within 24 hrs.

  • My doctors haven't suggested it and say everything is looking great, so no. I'm not doing kick counts until someone asks me to. Sounds like a good way to freak myself out unnecessarily.

  • I'm not. This baby moves constantly so I'm not concerned.

With DD1, I had to do them ocassionally since she didn't move around as much as this one does.
