What is everyone planning on (or currently doing) for baby food? Are you buying it? Making it? Organic only?

    I was planning on making my own, but I keep getting coupons for either free or practically free jars. I guess for now I will save the empty jars and use them for when I start making my own.

    For some reason, I feel like solids is soooooo far away. I better get with the program - and fast.

    I would like to make it. I'm not big with organic stuff but I guess for their little systems it's probably better.

    My problem is that I don't really cook. It's like we either whip up something creative, we eat on our own (I can eat breakfast for dinner and my H loves to get fast food) or we order in (that's most nights of the week but it's getting pretty expensive and I'm starting to feel it). 

    I feel like when LO starts to eat, I should have a meal ready and we should eat with him as a family. Right? That's what's supposed to happen?

    yeah i planned on making my own too. i just tried some gerber sweet potatoes, green beans and carrots and he loves them.

    good idea on saving the jars or containers.

    We just started rice cereal and will probably hold off on the other solids until he is 5 months.  But, when LO is ready, I will probably make most of it. My granny bought us a baby bullet..lol..

    My doctor said not to make (only buy) carrots or beets or collard greens because of the nitrate content. (Which apparently is not a problem in the store bought kind, but would potentially be if you make it yourself.) So I guess we will have to buy the carrots.

    Where are you getting the free coupons from?

    I signed up with BeechNut here: https://www.beechnut.com/starterkit/index.asp?sourceID=145. They sent a coupon for 1 free cereal and 2 free jars of baby food. I am in the Publix baby club (if you have a publix near you) and they send coupons quarterly. I also check here for coupons: https://www.earthsbest.com/node/311 and facebook "like" whatever brands I buy.

    Jars are only 30-50 cents, so when you get a $1 or $1.50 coupon, you're pretty much getting 50% off.

    A friend of my cousin has like a billion kids and is on WIC.  Well her youngest doesn't eat baby food (eats big people food lol) So I get ALOT of FREE baby food!!  Love it...Gerber and beech nut.  I love free!

    The beechnut club thing is great. IF you use one of the free coupons they e-mail they send u more for free stuff.

     

    I've actually made a bunch of my own and froze it. DS hates both rice cereal and oatmeal so we're just doing fruits and veggies right now. Which is what the pedi preferred anyway so I'm happy

    I making most of his baby food, with the exception of high nitrate stuff. I'll also keep jars on hand for travel when taking frozen isn't convenient. I buy organic fruit/veg
