Teething causing a runny nose?

My DD has a stuffy and runny nose and she can't sleep because of it. Other than being tired though, she's happy as can be, so I don't really think she's sick. My mom mentioned it might be teething related which I had never heard of before.

Has anyone else seen stuffy nose as a teething side effect?

 Also, any advice on how to help her sleep? I've done all the things I can think of: humidifier, propped up the mattress, extra nursing sessions, and of course the nose sucker. Let me know if there's anything else you all can think of that I'm not doing.

    I don't really believe in the whole teething causes runny nose/fever/diarrhea stuff. I just don't see how it would be related. Just my opinion though.

    i literally just got home from the pedi for this.she is really stuffy but her nose is running like crazy. it is from teething but he gave her a decongestant to help.

    I'm currently dealing with the same thing.  A couple of people have told me that sometimes infants get sick when they are teething and she has been congested with a runny nose for the last week and has had a horrible time sleeping.  When she's just had a cold in the past, she would sleep a lot better than she has been lately.  I've missed work a few days because of how tired I am and because the daycare provider wants to call me and tell me she thinks she has all sorts of ailments.

    I've had to have her sleep on her bouncer which she still fits into so that she can stay elevated.  If she sleeps in the crib or in bed with us, she gets a lot more congested as I usually bring her in to nurse her in the middle of the night -- but I've had to put her back in the bouncer so that she can breathe a little better.  I'm also running the humidifier and using the saline drops and nasal aspirator.  I don't think there's much else that can be done unfortunately. The pedi didn't give me any additional tips over the weekend either.  Just said to do as I was already doing and she shouldn't have these symptoms within another week.  I hope she's right!

    I have to disagree with you on this one. When Isaac was cutting his top 2 teeth last week his poop was never solid and he got bad diaper rash. As soon as they cut his diaper rash cleared up and his poop went back to solid. (Plus he was a whole lot happier Big Smile)

    I have to disagree with you on this one. When Isaac was cutting his top 2 teeth last week his poop was never solid and he got bad diaper rash. As soon as they cut his diaper rash cleared up and his poop went back to solid. (Plus he was a whole lot happier Big Smile)

    I guess for me this is not the case. Trin has cut four teeth and had no symptoms with any of them other than fussiness in general. I just don't see how cutting teeth can physiologically lead to other symptoms. I just think of it as old wive's tales.

    Edit: I just talked to my co worker and she explained that the excess drool can cause loose stool. So that I can see. I still don't get the fever/runny nose thing unless someone else can come up with a physiological explanation for me.

    I was told the same by the Pedi.  If they get a fever it's because of something they put in their mouth that had bacteria/dirty and got in through the open gums while cutting teeth.

    To me it makes sense that their noses stuff up when they are teething. Think about having a bad toothache, and how sometimes that can cause sinus problems. Ethan had a stuffy nose as soon as his teeth started coming in, and now he is a lot better.
