When people say the baby is engaged, what does that mean? I've seen it more and more lately, so I assume it's something to do with the baby prepping for delivery, but I'm not sure!
I'm pretty sure it is in regards to the babys head being low, and 'engaged' in your pelvis. Basically ready to come out any time, and in the correct position to do so.
I was told by the ER doctor last week that the baby was engaged in my pelvic bone. I had the worse groin pain I had ever felt. I can't even close my legs all the way. I can feel his head moving down there.
My doc explained it as "baby is no longer floating." They have dropped and are fully in your pelvis and aren't going back up.
When you have an internal, if your OB/MW can push on LO's head, and LO stays put, he/she is engaged. If not, then they are still floating (not engaged).
Re: Baby is engaged - what does this mean?
It's a sudden resurgence in arranged marriages - we've paired up our kids already.
Kidding aside, it means that the baby's head (or butt, for a breech baby) has dropped below the pelvic bone.
