Is anyone else gaining what they feel like is a huge amount of weight? I have already gained 26 lbs (14 of which are in my boobs. about 7 each, thx hormones). But I watch what I eat and I go to the gym and work out on the treadmill or elliptical and sometimes I'll take my dog on a walk with me too. But I just can't seem to keep the weight down and it's starting to worry me. I refuse to go hungry b/c then I'll just give myself a huge headache and the shakes. But this is getting ridiculous esp when I am 5'3" and started at 124lbs! at this rate I am going to have stretch marks from head to toe and need a tummy tuck, boob job and lipo after this birth! ugh!
Re: weight gain is out of control!
Haha, I'm up about 15lbs and all the posts about "OMGGGGG who has hardly gained any weight yet at ALL?????" sort of make me want to kick a puppy.
I was average weight to start out with and I know my baby is healthy and my body is doing what it needs to do. I'm still eating healthy and not making a beast of myself, so as long as my doctor isn't concerned, I'm not too worried.

I'm up 15lbs so far (5'6 and already overweight to start), which seems to be quite high compared to others on this board.
Try not to let it get to you. Comparing yourself to others will accomplish nothing but stress you out! Sounds like you're taking great care of yourself and your baby. Trust that your body knows what its doing.

I love this!
And I'm up 12 pounds. I can't exercise because I'm high risk. But I do go on 15 minute walks with my dog. I dunno, maybe some of us are just built to put on more weight than others.

I think it's important to remember that weight gain does not just go to the baby. If your cup size has gone up two sizes, for example, you're going to gain weight. Your blood volume increases during pregnancy, fluid causes you to gain weight, etc. I don't think it's fair for people to make comments that the baby is so small at this point, there's no reason to gain any weight.
Anyway, I would defer to your doctor regarding your weight gain. If he/she is okay with it, I wouldn't worry especially if you are being active and eating nutritious food. Just from talking to friends, it seems like some people have weeks where they gain a lot and then don't gain for the next few weeks whereas others gain slow and steady. I know it gets said a lot, but everyone is different!
Don't worry about it if doc's not worried. Everyone gains differently! I was about your same size with my first pg, and gained about 50 lbs, most of which was gone in about 3 weeks time (held a LOT of water in the end!) I will admit that I totally took advantage of "Eating for two" while I could and I hate that (I mostly blame having a DQ across the street from my work at the time...darn MooLattes!!) - but, the doc never said a word about it, and I just avoided the scale. This time around, I started at a heavier weight and haven't gained anything yet - which I chalk up to having already put on the weight where it needed to be BEFORE being pg! lol!
Don't stress, your body knows what it needs to do - take care of yourself and take care of baby is all you need to worry about (not the weight that comes with it)
I love your kick a puppy commment! I feel the same way! Everyone says not to compare yourself to others, but I am personally finding it hard to do. I have gained 10-12 lbs depending on when I weigh myself. I am 5'7" and started out a little overweight. A co-worker of mine is pregnant (3 weeks ahead of me) and is still tiny everywhere. People have even commented that maybe I am having twins because I am so much bigger than her. I don't know what she does behind closed doors, but what I see her eat for lunch is almost nothing. I just keep thinking to myself that my body is doing what it is supposed to do for a healthy babyand I am eating to support it. I am not going to worry about it until my doc. says something. As long as your doc isn't worried, try your best not to worry either.

I gained 14 pounds in the first 16 weeks. I was mortified.....especially since I was comparing myself to my friend when she was at 24 weeks (she had only gained 6 pounds). But after I sent out a text to her, and another friend.....I found out that she has now gained 40 (she is 38 weeks pregnant now) and my other friend gained 16lb at 16 weeks. So my friend may have only gained 6 pounds in the first 24 weeks....but once she hit her 3rd trimester she gained the other 34 pounds. My other friend gained quickly, and then evened out in the end (she gained around 40 with her pregnancy too)....
So I am hoping that it will even out a little and slow down!
OP, I agree with everyone who says that your body knows best. It sounds like you are doing all the right things. I am glad you are not going hungry because that does your body and your baby no favors at all! If you doctors says you are okay, then you are great!
Also, I truly feel that those who have gained a lot of weight are not as willing to post their amounts as those who have gained like 5 lbs. There are many out there that have gained much more but it just seems like no one has.
Also, a big hug to HappyArdvark who echoed my feelings exactly!
I've probably gained about 15 lbs by now (don't know for sure, only weigh myself at the doctors). I gained a LOT in the first 8 weeks and since then slow and steady.
Hearing about other people's minimal weight gain makes me feel like poop too. But you know what? I look good! I've got a cute little baby belly! I'm active and eat healthy nutritious foods and drink lots of water and give myself the occasional treat. And my doctors said they're happy to see you gain half your weight by 20 weeks-- which would put me between 30-40 total. Perfectly healthy.
So, in conclusion, eff all those other effers.
