Georgia Babies

Proud Mama Moment (little long)

I finally 'fessed up the other day that Geneva still used a binky at night. She doesn't use it anywhere else - not at school, not even on overnights at my parents' house. I've just been hesitant to yank it because I'm feeling a little selfish at the moment about my sleep.

Someone finally shoved me yesterday and told me to just get rid of it. So, last night, when DH was putting her to bed - she asked for her bink. I just said gently, "No. No more bink." Geneva kinda looked at me funny for a second and then whined sort of half-heartedly. I told her we were done with the bink and we didn't need it anymore.

I decided to sweeten the deal by telling her I'd bring her a special treat after school tomorrow (today). She brightened up and said, "Okay." And then she went to sleep. Not a peep. No kidding.

This morning, I went in to get her up and I thought I heard her saying "Bink, bink!" But she was saying, "Special Treat!" I sat down with her asked her what she wanted for a special treat.

"Do you want a puzzle?"

"No, I already have puzzles."

"Would you like a new book?"

"No, I already have lots of books." (She says this while gesturing grandly at her bookshelf.)

"Then what would you like for a special treat?"

She thinks for a second and says, "A smoothie!"

So, we're stopping for smoothie on the way home from school today.

Love that kid!

Hahaha!  But no really, Gavin surprised us too.  He had long since given it up at school but was still taking it in the car up until he turned 2.  I took it away one afternoon expecting a horrible ride home but he was totally fine.  We just never gave it back.  He looked for it a few times but that was it.  Even with Sophie's paci's, he has only put it in his mouth once and as soon as I told him those were for babies and asked him to put it in the sink, he did and has never tried again.  Good plan to do it now so you won't have to deal with it once the baby comes!

  • Go Geneva!  (and Mommy!)

Now I want to know if she expects another treat tomorrow if she can't have it tonight, or if she's done with it.  You'd better go throw all the binkies away!

I was just saying the same thing to DH this morning. I hid them all in a drawer and I'll probably trash them when I get home today. I'll nip the treat thing in the bud. I'm pretty sure she thinks it's just a one shot deal. If she wants a special treat again, I'll just tell her she's getting a kiss! ;)
