Did/will most of you deliver in the nude?
I'm by no means a prude, and I totally get the whole "when you're in labor you won't care" thing, but I really can't see myself shedding all inhibitions. I'm hoping to labor in a tub. Can I wear a big tank top or something?
Re: The naked factor
I did not want to be completely naked for either birth. I still had some small amount of modesty, which surprised even me. For my first I was in the required hospital gown (which I hated because it was too big and kept getting in my way).
For my second I labored/delivered in a birth tub. I wore a bikini top. Just a regular old bikini top. I'm really glad too because DH was taking pictures the moment DD came out and since my bottom half is submerged in the tub and my top half covered by the bikini they are totally pictures I can show people. And one of them is one of my most favorite pictures of all time.
I wouldn't have wanted to be in like a big take top because I would think it would get waterlogged and be really annoying. I would go with a swim suit top. Either a bikini top or a maternity tankini top or something so it wouldn't get waterlogged.
You can wear whatever you want when you deliver! I say pack what you think you will want to wear and just go with the flow.
I packed a sports bra to wear in the tub (I wasn't planning a water birth, but knew that I would labor in the tub in the hospital) and a tank for delivery. I wound up completely naked in the tub but did wear the tank for delivery.
When I stripped to get into the tub I was so focused on getting in the water already that I didn't even think about the sports bra. I just got naked and got in! I did wind up shivering and shaking uncontrollably (normal!) and wound up putting on the tank when I got out of the tub to help keep me a little warm.
Whatever you do, plan to get it all dirty- so don't wear anything you don't want to ruin!

So the boxers called my name and I put them on. I went with a sports bra and no shirt because it was hot (it was August). I wore the boxers until my midwife checked me for the only time, at which point I was 10 cm. The bra came off after J. was born and I needed to BF.
I guess I'd say to have a plan in mind for what you will wear, but realize that in the heat of the moment what you think sounds good now may not be what seems good then.
I agree with pps. Bring what you think you will want. You may surprise yourself though.
I brought a nightgown and arrived at the birth center in shorts, undies, a tank and a sports bra. I quickly shed all but the sports bra. In between the tub and shower I would put my shorts back on but that got annoying real fast. I eventually ended up just in the bra and finally, during pushing, I got so dang hot I ripped that off too. So, naked was for me

Started our exploration into the world of international adoption June 2012. We have no idea what this is going to look like but we are excited to find out!
I wore a hospital gown with my first and a men's t-shirt with my second.
I would have noticed if I was naked. If I had laboured in a tub, I probably would have worn a sports bra or bathing suit top. I have big boobs that need support and containment at the best of times.
DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)
Labor came so fast and hit me so hard that I didn't even pay any attention to what I was wearing. I had some old tattered t-shirt on with profanity on the back that I frequently took off...put back on...took off...put back on (it was what I had worn to bed). I'm not sure I ever had pants on but I did wear postpartum underwear with a pad since my water was broken. I would love to have the foresight next time to have a cute little jog bra on or something but honestly, I didn't care what I was wearing and yes, I was naked most of my labor and at delivery. I have like 3 pictures total that I was able to share with people from my birth.
There is always next time...
I wore a maternity swim top when I labored and gave birth in the tub. Was only minorly annoying at the time but when I look at the pictures it looks like I have a big tent around me as it was cut down the front and floated up in the water. Once the baby came out I wish I had removed it but it was too late as he was in my arms and the top would have been difficult to get off.
This time I plan on wearing something that can easily be removed before the baby's arrival as I want total skin on skin. Bikini top is what I'm planning.
I had on yoga pants and a maternity shirt and bra for laboring. So when it came time to push...off came the pants. And when it got closer to DD being born...off came the top and bra (so she could go straight to my chest for skin-to-skin and nursing.
So yeah...by the end, I was buck naked...and truly didn't mind at all. It was just DH, the doc and a couple nurses. I'm pretty modest too and was surprised that it didn't bother me...we were all about the business of birth.

Yep, definitely was stark nude for the birth. It wasn't really planned, but like PPs said. It was way too hot for clothes.
The only downside is my boobs in a lot of the initial pictures we took.

I felt this way too when I was pregnant. I ended up giving birth in the tub completely naked. The whoe neighborhood could have been there and I wouldn't have cared.
You can wear a top or a nursing bra though.
LOL I usually hate the "you'll see" comments, but in this case....
Seriously this is only an issue until you are actually in labor. I wouldn't stress too much about it.
