More judgement on the pregnant lady

This is the most frustrating thing about being pregnant... other people judging your actions.  I get it - you should eat healthy, you should excersize, you should avoid drinking, smoking, and unhealthy activities... and we ALL try very hard.  But there are so many DANG RULES!

So while eating a grapefruit, I start sprinkling Splenda on my wedges.  My girlfriend, who I just told yesterday, comes up to me and kindly says, "No - no, you shouldn't be eating that.  Use real sugar and absolutely do not eat artificial sweeteners."  Okay - thank you for looking out for me, I wasn't considering that... but oh geez, how many people are watching and judging everything that I putting in my mouth!

Sheesh! First of all, according to the giant pile o' paper my OB gave me, only Sweet n Low needs to be fully avoided. Everything else is fine in moderation. Second of all, people need to mind their own business! You were putting Splenda on the grapefruit, not vodka!

My DH is turning into the food and water intake Nazi. I'm ready to kill him. If I hear "how many glasses of water have you had today?" or "Are you SURE you can eat that" ... I'm going to snap!

Too bad it was not vodka, you might have turned around and slapped her and said Mind your business. LOL

  • Definitely a pet peeve.  While being pregnant is wonderful, there are definitely struggles and it's impossible to be perfect all the time.  And, as other posters have said, my OB said not to worry about splenda.

  • As long as you (general) are not smoking, drinking, or doing drugs, then I think people should leave you alone.

You don't want me to tell you what I think people should do if you ARE doing one or more of the 3 things I listed!  Wink

X Rated and sour. Tastes like a grapfruit with a little sugar on it. X rated is a pink grapfruit vodka.

  • Hmm... the FDA says splenda is safe for pregnant women, but your friend wants you to listen to her instead... interesting...Hmm

  • I've learned the polite response is something similar to "while I appreciate your concern, I prefer to monitor my health with my doctor."  It may come across as a bit snarky, but it'll at least get them to back off.

Also, technically a little bit of alcohol is not only ok but good for baby.  There's just a lot of stigma out there because you only hear about mothers who drink to excess while pregnant and cause problems.  Some doctors may even give an alcohol limit that's safe although it's not popular to do so.
