Should I be worried?

Since today, DD (my 2yr old) has a red lump which is red around the lump and hurts DD by her groin area. It's right on the bikini area and her diaper is touching it. It doesnt look like a bug bite or a pimple. It feels semi hard underneath. Should I call the pedi now, or wait? The baby has an appointment Thursday pm, would you wait till then or take her sooner? No fever btw.

  • And it doesn't look like diaper rash?  How big is the lump?

  • i'd call now.  my baby cousin had a hernia that sounded like that.  hopefully it's nothing serious though.
  • Um, it's about the size of a craft bead. The kind kids play with and make necklaces and stuff. Her diaper is touching it, but it's not a rash. Actually it looks red and like a lump but the lump in under her skin. When I rub over it it is inverted. Am I making sense?

Does it have what could be a bite entry spot?  Even if it's just a tiny tiny hole?  It seems more like a bite than anything but I don't know...the size itself would not have me too worried but I'd watch it and possibly call the nurses line.  If you can get a picture of it you might be able to email them the picture and they can look at it without you going in.

Good idea! I had DH hold her and flash a light in it, I didn't see any holes but it hurts her so she was squirming a lot.
  • There are lymph nodes in the crease between your torso and legs, could it be that?

This is the area that it's in. That's why I'm a little worried. I'm going to call and see what they say.
  • An inflamed lymph node only indicates that there's an infection/irritation nearby - the lymph nodes in your neck, for example, may get inflamed from just a simple cold.  I'd watch it and if it doesn't go down in a day or two, then I would be more worried.
