Pregnant after a Loss

Pee or fluid? may be a little TMI

That is the question!

I am overly paranoid which I am sure you ladies can understand. I am coming up on 16 weeks and with our last pregnancy my water broke at 17 weeks. So any and every thing has me on edge lately, even more than normal. Both yesterday and again today I am having some issues with wetness. I hope (for the first time in my life) that it's just pee. But how do I know? I can feel it. Right now I am sitting at my desk and it feels like a little bubble of liquid and then went to the restroom and sure enough, a tiny little spot on my panties. I put on a panty liner, but my head keeps telling me that it's not just pee.

My question is, how do you tell? I gave it the ol' sniff test but it really didn't have a scent. WWPGALD?

  • I'm thinking is probably cervical fluid.  I'll go through phases where there is definitely a noticable increase.  I don't think there is anything to worry about.  However, given your history, if you're not able to calm yourself down about it, I wouldn't hesitate to call the doctor's office.  I'd rather have them think I'm a nervous freak than not freak when there's something to be nervous about.  GL!

Gosh, I really don't know what I would do, as I do not have experience with the non-pee fluid.  II would suspect that its really probably just pee, but, if in your head you keep thinking that it's not just pee, I would call the doctor and let him/her know your concerns.  It would be much better to do that than to worry at your desk all day.

  • I think it's probably cervical fluid, too. I know I'd had quite a big of discharge. Does it feel like you're...leaking? If you're concerned, there's no harm in calling the doctor. They'll probably be fine with seeing you to make sure it's not amniotic fluid.  I know this must be stressful, especially with the timing, but try not to get too anxious. ((Hugs))

This is pretty much what I was going to write.  It sounds like its probably a normal pregnancy wetness, but given your history I can understand the worry.

This might be kind of random, but from what I understand amniotic fluid dries in a distinct fern pattern whereas pee or cervical fluid would not.

  • I agree with the ladies above, but given your history it doesn't hurt to call the OB and get checked out.  If for nothing else but piece of mind!  I hope it's just pee or cervical fluid!! GL!

  • Thanks ladies! I'm pretty sure it's either pee or cervical fluid, but my head is working against me lately. I am scheduled for a Dr appt Friday morning anyway, so I will have him check me then. If it gets worse before then I will call. I don't think it's amniotic fluid because there is no odor and it's not really happening when I stand up, which I would think would be when more leaking would occur. It's probably my craziness just setting in.

My blood pressure has been CRAZY high lately too and they are having me monitor and watch that closely so it's not helping. It's probably so high from my stress being elevated, but it's still scary.

I had this issue last week...and it was actually wet all the way through to my PJs (TMI). It had no odor, nor did it look like normal discharge. It was very watery. I went to L&D to have it checked out because I had been monitored twice last week for low fluid levels and I was panicked. It ended up being just regular old CM....but there was a lot. Given your  history though I wouldn't hesitate to have it checked out.
