Nannies/Child Care (The Heights)

OMG I am going crazy trying to find a nanny or child care.....anyone have suggestions for this?
I called Esparenza school in the heights and its $1300 (estimated) per month, and the waiting list is only accepting in January. My LO is due in September and I am thinking I will have to be back at work mid Nov...........I really dont want to do chidcare; I would prefer someone to be at home with my daughter...

This whole thing is making me panick!

Re: Nannies/Child Care (The Heights)

  • I completely feel you!!! I'm due end of August and am find the same thing in the Heights/Garden Oaks area. There are tons of places for daycare, but the list narrows down quickly when you look for full time early infant starting Nov/Dec.

If you haven't already, check out https://www.dfps.state.tx.us/Child_Care/Search_Texas_Child_Care/ppFacilitySearchDayCare.asp

I used it to search for facilities by zipcode.

I'm also not having much luck with daycare right now and am just starting to research nanny care. It's overwhelming to say the least and seems quite pricey - $1300 doesn't sound high compared to nanny-care so far in my (admittedly) early research.

Here are some nanny agency sites that others have pointed me to:

    https://www.morningsidenannies.com/index.html

    https://www.momsbestfriend.com/houston-home.aspx

    https://www.motherhoodcenter.com/index.php/houston-nanny-agency

I'm not sure the best way to research independant nanny-care, yet. I dont' know many folks that have used nannies, so that is a little bit of a dead-end for me.

Good Luck! I'm sure we'll both figure something out in the end :)

  • If you're in the Heights, I suggest you join Heights Kids Group

    https://www.bigtent.com/groups/heightskids

THere have literally been a DOZEN or more "my kids are going to school now and my nanny is available" threads in the last week. However, it's not an open forum- you have to attend an event to join for security reasons. The process is explained on the page linked above.

  • I came in here to suggest Heights Kids Group.  Soooo many nannies will be available come school time.  Also, I don't think $1300 is that much for a nanny.  I personally don't think that is too much for a daycare either, but I only looked at 3 places.  Unfortunately, you may have to do a little research and re-adjust what you are willing to pay.

Childcare in the loop is pretty expensive.  One of my co-workers (who lived in the heights) didn't want to pay that much, so she found a daycare that she liked that was right around the first exit at 290, after getting off 610.  Unfortunately I don't know the name of it and I can't personally vouch for it, but she seemed to like it.

  • Thank you I am going to join this group.........its such a stressful time trying to organize this "nanny Vs childcare" when the kid is not even here! But hopefully this grioup will point me in the right direction with help!

Can you be pregnant and join do you know?

Yes, being pregnant is a great time to join. There are monthly Expectant Moms Group dinners. In fact, I think the next one is coming up soon. Email me (my email address is on the HKG homepage) and I'll send you the info.
