Belly Button and Laproscopy Scar

I have a scar in my belly button from a laproscopic surgery scar.  I'm wondering if the scar is what is keeping my belly button an innie.  Has anyone had their belly button pop, even with a laproscope scar??

Re: Belly Button and Laproscopy Scar

  • I have the standard small incisions from my lap choley (gall bladder removal)  from about 6 years ago...I'm still an innie for now (but my belly button is super flat)

  • I had a lap-choley at 19. Mine didn't pop with first pregnancy but I am carrying way lower this time. Mine isn't all the way out but kinda half in half out.  It looks really funny!
  • I have a scar on the bottom of my belly button from  getting my appendix out (12 weeks pg w/ first at the time). With my first pregnancy my belly button kind of flattened out. I was pg with a girl first time around. This time I am pg with a boy and carrying a little differently...I am 33 weeks and my belly button is trying so hard to pop out. Not sure if it ever will!

  • Interesting... I never thought about it much, but it probably could be the case. I, too, have had laproscopic surgery through the belly button and it never popped out with DS and has no signs of doing so this time...and my belly is huge. My belly button is really shallow and almost flush with my stomach.
  • I got lap surgery for gallbladder last year and belly button hasn't popped either!  It's still a bit in.

  • I was just thinking the other day about whether or not my belly button was EVER going to pop...never really thought about my lap scar keeping it an innie! Thanks for the insight!

  • My son was born pre-laproscopic surgery and it popped out into a complete "outie."  This pregnancy, post-lap, it is kind of cone shaped: out in the center and sunken in at the perimiters.  I was just starting to wonder if this was due to the surgery, and it certainly sounds like that's the case!
  • I have a cross on mine, one from laparoscopy and one from an umbilical hernia. Mine isn't an outie but it's not an innie...I'm a flatty ;)

  • I had my gall bladder removed also so my belly button also has a laproscopy scar. My belly button gets very flat each pregnancy but never pops....I don't know if that surgery has anything to do with it or not though.

  • I have a scar right under my belly button from when I got my gall bladder taken out 3 years ago. If i'm laying on my back an press on the sides of my belly button it'll pop out but nope I still have an innie.

  • Funny, never even considered that as to why I still have an innie but it seems to be the consensus!

  • I have the same lappy scar and my belly button hasn't popped out either! I think that the scar tissue must be holding it down or something, although I have noticed in the last week or so as the baby drops lower in my belly that my belly button has become more stretched out and is almost flush with the rest of my belly. Maybe as you get farther along it will pop out a little too! I think we should count ourselves a little lucky though, because I heard that when it pops out it can be really irritating to the touch.
  • I have the same scar in my belly button and it's been popped for weeks now. I'm talking third nipple!
  • I've had about 9 laparoscopies for endometriosis and this is my first pregnancy.  The scars are definitely keeping my belly button from popping out.  The scars are extremely noticable right now but the doctor told me its the pregnancy pigmentation and will go back to being light and non-existent after the baby is born.
