Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Tired of waking up at 5:15am!

Any tricks to help my LO sleep in later?  Her usual sleep schedule is wake up around 5:15am, 1 hour nap in the morning, 1 1/2 hour nap in the afternoon, to bed at 9:00pm.  We already have dark blinds to keep the morning light out and when we let her "cry it out" in the morning, she NEVER goes back to sleep, she's just ready for the day.  TIA!

I have no idea but will be monitoring this thread. DD was doing that and now she gets up at 4:30 instead and wants to be held to sleep for another 45 - 60 minutes. Now when a friend watched her for a week she'd sleep till 6-6:30 every day for her. So frustrating!

  • I feel your pain.  Have you tried making sure your babe's tummy is full before bed?  Maybe a bedtime snack will do it!
  • Have you tried putting her to bed earlier? At like 8 pm or so?

  • well my alarm sounds at 445 so i'd be ok with 515! ;)

seriously though, Sabrina wakes between 4 & 5 every day and i give her some milk and she goes back to sleep for an hour or two (or sometimes three!)- except during the workweek when we both have to be out the door by 6.

I think it's pretty standard procedure unfortunately! My DS goes back and forth between 5:30-6:30am. We usually bring him into bed with us in the morning, give him some milk or juice and watch sesame street while we try to catch 20 more minutes of rest before getting up. I really think they are just wired that way. The only person I know with a toddler who sleeps past 6am is a SAHM friend who puts her kids down at 10-11pm every night. My mom told me there were a few years when she thought she would never sleep in again!

DH and I switch off on the weekends letting each other sleep in one day so that helps a bit. Hang in there, someday they will be teenagers and you will be screaming at them to get out of bed.

I think it varies. DD goes to bed around 8 pm and sleeps till about 8:30/9 am. Today she didn't get up till 10 am.

  • Put her to bed earlier.  I know it seems crazy but a lot of times earlier sleep means later sleep in the morning.  DS goes to bed at 6:30 and gets up about 6:30 or 7am

  • Put her to bed WAY earlier. Like 7 at least. Sounds counter-intuitive but it will likely work. Give it 5 days like that.
