If LO likes to help you in the kitchen, how do they reach the countertop?

N loves to hang around and "help" me as I prepare dinner, or bake. But, he can't reach the countertop. I had him standing on a chair, but then I can't even walk away cause I'm worried he'll fall. If you're LO likes to help around the kitchen - how are they reaching the counter top?

DD stands on a chair.

She hasn't fallen yet! I don't really leave, but eh, I can't keep a hand on her at all times either. I figure if she falls, she falls and that will probably be the last time that happens.

My LO stands on a chair as well. As soon as I ask her if she wants to help bake something, she tells me she is getting the chair.

They stand on the chair. Yes, there's a chance they'll fall. I'm sure one of mine has before. They survived.

DD gets mad if there are clothes or a purse on the chair and just flings them to the ground.

My DS uses a step stool to help.

DD stands on a step stool. She can get on and off the step stool by herself, so I am not afraid of her falling.

i bought a step stool from christmas tree shop.

it folds up and we keep it in the kitchen. he LOVES helping me cook.

DS loves to help in the kitchen! I bought him a 2 step, step-stool which he will move around the kitchen as I move around.

We have this.. It stays in the bathroom, where she uses it for washing her hands. And we'll just move it to the kitchen if she wants to help/play in there.

DS uses a two step stepstool that he drags around the kitchen. He has fallen off a couple times when trying to reach for something when he was too lazy to move the stool, but none of the falls were major. Sometimes I wish I hadn't brought the stool out for him because he can get in the way, but I just deal with it because I know he enjoys "helping".

We have a Learning Tower, and I do not think it is overkill. Of course that's probably because my kids like to push each other and fight over which chair and stool belongs to who. Even when there are two of the same thing right next to each other in the same spot. At least with the Learning Tower there are rails around them to catch themselves on when it starts getting all, "mine mine MINE ::push shove::," in the kitchen.

That said, I won my Learning Tower in a contest here on TB. There is no way I'd spend the $200+ that it costs new. I would have built the one from anawhite.com instead, because I'm cheap.

We have a Learning Tower, and we really like it. It may be overkill in terms of just providing safe access to the counter top, but DD loves to climb and play on it as well.

DD loves her learning tower. She's always in it when I'm in the kicthen doing something. I personally don't feel like it's overkill because DD always wanted to be held when I was cooking. Not the safest. And I didn't trust her enough to stand on a chair or a step stool.

No, it's overkill. I have 3 kids (2.5, 4, 5). The people on this board are the classic example of "helicopter parent." Hell, I walk out of the room with them on the chair. They pull the chairs up to reach bowls/cups to fix their own food.

Overkill? My son's used this multiple times daily since he was like 12 months old. I got it for $100 when it was on sale at Drugstore.com and we've definitely got our $s worth - and this next baby will use it as well. My son couldn't stand not being able to see what we were doing and this provides a lot safer option than a chair or step stool.

my DD stands on a chair at the counter. and when we are baking i or shes helping me with mixing something she usually sits on the counter right next to the bowl.

DH built one for DS, but it was more like $75 in materials. We use it every single day and LOVE IT!
