If you quit CDing...

Why did you quit?  I've had my fair share of frustrations (rashes, stink, etc.) and have considered quitting a few times.  I'm just wondering what your breaking point was.

Re: If you quit CDing...

  • I'm perfectly happy with my CDs during the day but I think I'm going to start using her disposables at night. I have tried SO many things for nighttime and she still wakes up with her pjs and sheets wet. I had her in a regular huggies this weekend while we were out of town and didn't have a single nighttime leak. She's got enough nighttime troubles right now, if switching to a sposie at night will help eliminate one of those, I am all about it.

BTW what kind of detergent are you using? that might be the culprit.

  • I've been slacking with the CDing lately ... I had gotten sposies for when we were on Vacation and am just having a hard time getting back to it. She sleeps better in sposies and we've been having lots of leaks with the flips lately, I have to double up the inserts.

I just want to say for those who quit and are looking to sell their stash, you may want to think about hanging on to some of them still. I know this is a long way off but they really help with potty training. DD1 was always in sposies but when we started thinking about PTing I switched her over and it really helps them recognize when They are going better. They can't really feel it as well in disposables ... if that makes sense.

Have you tried wool at night?  That's the only way we can be leak-free at night.

I think we might start doing disposables at night, too.  I don't want to, I despise buying them, but he leaks up the front almost night.  Argh.

I just switched to Tide detergent and the rashes have significantly decreased.  I think that's what saved my sanity and kept me from quitting altogether...for now.

  • I am about 2.5 seconds away from throwing in the towel. We have leaks constantly. Before we moved, we had an HE machine, and it just didn't clean them well, so we had issues with repelling. When we moved in with my in-laws, I stripped them really well...TWICE. I am still having leaks. That combined with opposition from my mother-in-law (who keeps her during the day) have me just about at my wit's end. The only reason I am still hanging in there it makes me ill thinking about wasting all the $ I spent on them just to go back to spending $$ on sposies.

This is a great point and why I'm keeping all my OS pocket diapers.

I didn't have a "breaking point" so to speak but we've had a lot of yeast/thrush issues and she always ends up with a bad rash from it being in her bowels. THank goodness it's not really in the diapers but I worry about her sitting in it so I have been using disposables really frequently. It's just not worth it for us right now. Also, my mom has been buying diapers left and right (God bless her she thinks a $2 coupon and a small sale is the deal of the century) so I haven't actually bought diapers for months.

I did it to save money and a little bit of the environment. Well, my water usage almost doubled because of the diaper laundry and then an extra clothes load due to leaks, it kind of negated it for me.

  • Those who are leaking at night, I can't stress enough how awesome hemp inserts are. We use a MF insert and a hemp insert at night and never have leaks.

I've been trying this with DS and we still get leaks!  I might try wool per PP's suggestion.

yeah the hemp inserts only bought me a few extra hours but when she started sleeping all night we still had wet pjs/sheets. I might try the wool too.

What brand did you try? We use a AFFF. They are bullet proof, I swear.

For night time hemp, I really recommend trying an AFFF

    When does AFFF stock?

Also, I've found this magic combination for nighttime that includes a pocket diaper, MF insert, one of our old prefolds folded with a hemp inside it. It's worked awesome. We do that or a fitted and a hemp.

If I could just get Jack to stop pooping in the middle of the night...

I'm using the Best Bottoms hemp plus their MF nighttime doubler stuffed in a BG 4.0.  It's possible the hemp hasn't reached its full absorbency yet, they're kind of new.  Also, he's been eating an entire extra bottle at 3am (hello, growth spurt), so I'm not surprised he's having leaks!  I'll also check out AFFF- thanks for the suggestion.

She stocks on Wednesdays at 12 EST. Also though, I've heard of people just e-mailing her and being able to order some. She is really nice and her inserts come prepped already, which is nice.

Boo for middle of the night pooping, Jack!

I boiled for 20 mins to prep, and they've been washed probably 5 times since.  I'm wondering if they're still not fully prepped.
