NBR - defrosted meat

This weekend I took some ground turkey out of the freezer to cook for dinner.  My stupid pregnancy brain can't remember if I took it out on Saturday or Sunday morning.  I haven't been able to cook it for various reasons... It's probably not safe to eat tonight, huh.  Throw out?  I hate wasting food. Sad

Re: NBR - defrosted meat

  • I've done this a few times lately. As long as it looks/smells ok - we still use it BUT MH eats it - not me.  I'm super phobic about throwing up so I just opt not to take that risk.

  • It's been in the fridge for 3 or 4 days? I'd eat it. DH would probably throw it out but he throws everything out.

Haven't opened the package yet so I don't know... It still looks good (still pretty pink)... Maybe I'll open it and just give it the smell test.  If it doesn't smell right, I'll throw it out.

For the PP who asked, yes it's been sitting in our fridge since I took it out of the freezer.

As long as it still smells fine, I'd cook it. It's hard to mistake spoiled food.

If it smells fine, it's fine.  For one, you are cooking it and two, the most dangerous thing is when meat gets up to room temp without promptly cooking it which if your fridge is working it hasn't.  And I'm assuming it's working or you would have noticed ;-)
